Feb 11, 2014 - Rainbow Beach

Saturday On our way to Rainbow Beach today we stopped off at Gympie to have the van weighed at a public weighbridge. So we now know that the van is heavier than we thought and the tow ball weight is less than we thought, consequently, we have added some weight to the van boot which has increased the ball weight and Richard feels the van is towing better. We also experienced a road rage incident on our way out to Rainbow Beach. Just as we had negotiated a left turn at a main junction where we could see no-one coming, a car screamed up behind...

Jan 21, 2013 - Fraser Island - Connie, Connie ..Connie

We arrived in Rainbow Beach at lunchtime where we met Suzy and Tasha. We checked in and we were supposed to go to Fraser Island on Monday but asked if we could change to go Sunday with the girls as it was Suzy’s 25th Birthday on Monday, this wasn’t a problem so we were able to get excited. We went to the beach in the afternoon it was really nice, and you could actually go in the sea without a stinger net which was a bit of a novelty. After this we had to get back to the hostel for our safety briefing. So basically the concept of Fraser...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELSEY!!! Woke up this morning a little later than normal and a little more cloudy headed! What a great morning – had a bit of a lie in til 9 and when we got up a market had been set up! So we got up and dressed and had a wonder round the market – i ended up spending loads of money! As i always do at markets. We all shared a kilogram of strawberries so had some on our morning cornflakes! We had to pay for a permit to camp at Sarawak campsite at Inskip point but only 5 dollars each per night and we are right on the...

May 31, 2011 - Aus - Day 27 & 28 Sandy Beaches

Day 27 Woke up, made some breakfast, had a warm shower and headed to Gympie, where we spent most of the day updating the blog, checking emails, and catching up. Spent the night at Six mile rest area... nothing too exciting. Day 28 After breakfast, we made our way to Rainbow beach from Gympie. The drive to the coast was quite nice.... saw some orchards full of oranges, and beautiful scenery... some similar to what we would expect Africa to look like. Rainbow beach is just awesome. Beautiful sand that seems to never end, and the blue water to...

Sep 16, 2010 - Rainbow Beach

Sept 16th Open campsites overlooking Tin Can Bay. Hayden and Grace out on their bikes and collecting wood for campfire before breakfast. Pretty spot but armour-plated mozzies and squadrons vicious midgies. Apparently it is the norm here and everyone covers themselves in Deet repellant. Spent day around campsite. A fisherman gave the kids some fish to throw to the pelicans. Wathced a stingray and the waters edge. Daniel thrilled to have some computer access again. De-salted the car again, loads of washing. Beautiful sunset over the...

Jul 5, 2010 - Rainbow Beach

After at an early start we packed up and got away from 1770 by 9.30 am. We had morning tea at Bundaberg but unfortunately had no time for a Bundy Rum Distillery tour. We were interested to see all the sugarcane fields on either side of the road and lots of forests planted for logging too. The cane was flowering – a sight none of us had ever seen before. On to Hervey Bay for lunch and we were surprised how big and flat the ocean is behind Fraser Island. May have the potential for a windsurfing holiday? Carried on to Rainbow Beach and arrived...

Mar 12, 2010 - Rainbow Beach - Fraser Island
