Jun 19, 2016 - Mission Beach

Sunday 19 June Heavy rain overnight! We seemed to be on the top edge of the "weather event" so by morning things began to lighten up and the sun even had a couple of goes at trying to pop through! The day turned out to be a little cooler but still no jumpers needed! Despite this it was still a good excuse to have a leisurely breakfast then catch up on a bit of washing. Even bought a Sunday paper to peruse over morning tea! After lunch we decided to go visit our friendly fruit stall and a few more delicious lady finger bananas and another...

Jun 18, 2016 - Mission Beach

Saturday 18 June A couple of heavy showers during the night, but the sun was shining by morning, and more blue sky than we've seen for a while. A leisurely breakfast, some household chores, and we set off again towards Tully having decided we would visit Tully Gorge while the weather was good. A great choice and an easy drive (thanks for the tip, Glynis), with bitumen all the way. Drove to the end of the road past acres and acres of banana plantations, and arrived at Cardstone and the Kareeya Hydro Station. The scenery was great, a very...

Jun 17, 2016 - Mission Beach

Friday 17 June A little bit of rain during the night, followed by a dull day with little or no rain. Our first stop today was at the info centre in the main part of Mission Beach. We are actually staying at Wongaling Beach. We chatted to two local characters at the info centre. They tried to convince us that the two best things to do here were a tandem parachute jump and white water rafting. Not these little ducks!! Checked out about going to Paronella Park, which they were not enthused about at all! They did give us directions to a great...

Jun 16, 2016 - Cairns to Mission Beach

Thursday 16 June After the afternoon rain, last night was drier than Wednesday night. Time to pack up, and we took our time in between showers. At one stage when the sun appeared briefly, a passer by asked why we were packing up when the sun was shining! Left Cairns around 9.30am. Paid a visit to Jayco at Edmonton to replace the centre dust caps that we lost on the way up the inland road. We had replaced the missing bearing caps at Georgetown but had to wait until Cairns to get new centre dust caps. Frustrating as it appears that the wheel...

Aug 8, 2014 - Days 37 - 41 UPDATE NOTES

Hi All, It is our sad duty to inform you the bloody weather has turned foul now for 9 days and its been a bore, too much wind and rain slowed down our activities just a little. After leaving Cairns we stayed at Innisfail for 4 nights, famous for being clobbered by 2 cyclones in the last 10 years, the southerly wind blew the whole time and more water fell from the sky, even the locals were complaining. It was that wet that sugar cane harvesting stopped as did the sugar mill due to lack of cane. We were able however to go for a couple of...

2014 cold beater

Apr 30, 2014 - Mission Beach, AUS

Okay, back into RV's! A short bus ride to pick up our Apollo Class C rigs. You better believe that these rigs were given a very thorough going over by us after the disappointing performance in New Zealand. We found no problems, picked up a little extra "kit" without problem, and took off. Mary had developed a nasty cold, so we bypassed the couple of (mediocre) stops on the way and just stopped at Cole's (one of the two major grocery stores here). Then it was straight on to our campground in Mission Beach. Nice little place right across the...

Mar 16, 2014 - The Cassowary Coast

The Cassowary Coast Cardwell was the first town in the Cassowary Coast Region, though we saw nothing of these magnificent birds on our way in. We thought we should take some time to find some if we could. In the meantime, we were still looking for crocs. We walked along Cardwell beach looking for the 5 metre saltwater crocodile alleged by the locals to have been seen there, but could find no croc. People were walking their dogs along the beach and, at times, close to the waters edge. We waited and watched, but the dogs survived! We drove...

Jan 26, 2014 - Happy Australia Day

Tuesday 21st January Today was a bit of a slow day for us, we just hung around Mission Beach and had a nice quiet day. Steph did all the washing, as it was looking like a fine day, unfortunately just as we finished the clouds come over again and so we had to hang it all under the awning..not nice Huey!!! Wednesday 22nd January Today we headed for Tully Gorge which is about 65 kms from Mission Beach. It is a bit of a drive but very interesting as you follow the creek up to the Hydro system. This creek is used for white water rafting,...

Jan 20, 2014 - Mission Beach - Townsville day trip

Sunday 19th January Today we made arrangements to go to Townsville and catch up with Steph's Niece Ngaire and her baby Rose. This is a bit of a drive but we thought we would stop off at a few free camp spots to check them out as we headed down to Townsville (about 240kms)and should have been only a 2.5 hour drive. Monday 20th January Unfortunately we left Mission Beach a little bit later than planned (10:30) but thought we still had plenty of time, unfortunately there is also a lot of road works along the way, so we were delayed a bit. The...

Jan 19, 2014 - Mission Beach

Saturday 18th January Today we had a very peaceful day, we just stayed around the caravan and had a rest. Sunday 19th January This morning we had a market set up in the property alongside the Caravan Park. So of course we had to go and check it out. It was mainly crafty type stuff which we didn't really need. There was also some fruit and veg's, a few food and drink stalls. We just bought some nice fresh fruit so we could make some smoothies (!) We then decided to go for a drive up to Tully and Cardwell. We left and went for a drive first...

Jan 17, 2014 - Mission Beach

Friday 17th January We were a little late getting up this morning (Thanks Steve!!) but we eventually got packed and leaving the Caravan park at 10.30am, I called Steve as we were going to try and catch up but he had to go into work for a while, so we said our goodbyes and off we headed. On the way we passed a private home that has an incredible garden which they have named The Serenity Garden, I stopped so we could get a photo. It would of taken a lot of work to get this garden looking like it does and also the up keep. Steve had given us a...

Jul 1, 2013 - A Sunday Drive

30th June Celebrating the end of financial year with a day out. Leaving Tully we are in a stream of traffic looks like everyone has the same idea. We are doing the scenic drive to Mission Beach. Everything is so lush and green and we are seeing lots of signs drawing our attention to the recent crossings of the Cassowary and to be aware. We haven't seen one yet. First stop of the day, Mission Beach monster market, a bottle neck around the market as everyone wanted to be parked up close. We have opted to park over the road and walk a short...
