Jul 22, 2014 - Maryborough

After leaving Maleny we headed northward again stopping at Gympie at a caravan supplies shop where we bought some shades for the van and a super water filter so we can have clean water. Good investments I thought. We did another free camp just north of Gympie which had a pond/lake with lots of birds and a goose in residents. It was great to wake up, look out my window and see a pond with birds just a few metres away. After a birthday breakfast for Pete we headed to Maryborough. We set up camp at Maryborough showground and I discovered we...

Aug 18, 2011 - Maryborough - Aug 18

Thursday 18th Aug, we took off up the coast to finally meet one of my Dad's cousins. I only made contact with the Halpin side of the family last year, and the wife of Dad's cousin was the one who got in touch with me after seeing my "search" for my Grandfather's family. We had a lovely day together - Ged (Gerald) could not be more different from Dad, physically!! However, he does have the pale, blue eyes of the Halpin family.

Apr 7, 2011 - Maryborough

6th April. On the road again we are moving on to Maryborough, it is a bit better weather wise today, still overcast and it tried to rain a couple of times, but there were patches of sunshine. We had morning tea at a lovely park Lake Alford Reserve in Gympie, we spent about an hour walking around the ponds in the park, water birds were everywhere they have a very nice home as there are small islands in the middle of the ponds, and plenty of food. I took a couple of slices of bread to feed them but as we walked over the bridges there were...

Nov 26, 2010 - Maryborough

26th November Maryborough Matt looked after me and drove to a place with a view on the espianard so I could have a lie in while he had a walk on the beach. Once I had recovered we visited a museum with a sharks mouth for a door. Vic Hislop is in the guiness book of records a number of times for catching big sharks. In his eyes the great White is pure evil. Because of over fishing of their usual fish diet they are hungry and ao going after dolphins, whales, seals and humans. They must be stopped and it is his personal duty to do so, literaly...

..bus journey turned out to be not so bad- bumped into Lynsey, American gal who'd stayed at Aquarius as well in Surfers, on the bus, & we were both staying at Pippies in Rainbow, so that was cool. 1st day spent surfing, then chilling with Lynsey on beach. Got to meet our Fraser Island (for those that don't know is the worlds largest sand island) group in avo- got off to a bit of a bad start with Myah, an Israeli gal, pissing off 2 of the German gals in an argument about food money- all came down to a dollar, lol! Shopping with 11 people a...

John's Trip to Oz

Jan 17, 2007 - Fraser Island trip

I was collected from My hostel in Rainbow beach, having had a really peaceful nights sleep. apparently there were loads of disturbances and noise in our room, but i was blissfully unaware, since i have just discovered earplugs. The tourbus seated 14, and we all cheerfully introduced ourselves and left the rest to Terry, our driver and guide. there were 2 German couples, one from Essen, and another from Oberhausen!!!! a bit close to home! i did try a bit of german on them, but i appear to have forgotten a lot of words....hardly surprising...

Perrin's Big Trip

The home of the crocodile hunter!!! Não é só porque o ano mudou que vamos quebrar uma tradição...chegamos na cidade sem acomodação...rs. Não reservamos pela internet pois estava tudo lotado, então mais uma vez arriscamos...

Dec 11, 2006 - Hervey Bay, QLD

HERVEY BAY\FRASER ISLAND - Wednesday 6th December to Thursday 7th (Days 40 & 41) After the long 14 hour bus journey down from Airlie Beach, arriving at 01:30, we spent the rest of Wednesday relaxing, with a pleasant walk around Hervey Bay. Thursday morning we were up early for a day trip to Fraser Island, the biggest sand island in the world. We had chosen another small group tour, around 14 people, and were met by our eccentric German tour guide Henning for the one hour ferry crossing to the island. Henning turned out to be completely mad....

(parapente...

Sep 12, 2006 - Whitsundays to Mooloolaba

The winds turned favourably to the north east, and Wirraway was soon leaving Airlie - our home for the last 2 months. So many beautiful places we've seen, so many memories.... Take Rudy Bishop, who calls himself the Undies Man, as that's all he ever wears. He hangs a net over the side of his old boat to do his washing, which are only ever underpants. "What else do you need up here? There's a house over there that's worth 25 million. I earn only $375 a fortnight, and I live like a king" And the painfully rich man on "Rush" whose boat is...
