Jul 31, 2016 - Magnetic Island

This past weekend I went on a trip to Magnetic Island, a 20 square mile island just off the coast of Townsville. Six of us booked a beach house for Saturday night because we wanted to attend the "full moon festival" that was taking place. Some of the Australians had told us about the festival, it originated in Thailand and has been picking up steam since coming to Australia. We didn't want to miss the opportunity so we ended up booking a place for pretty cheap ($23 AUD a person) and took the ferry over to Magnetic Island Saturday morning....

Jan 11, 2013 - Topless Barbie Car - Magnetic Island

The following morning we were up early (again) but this time our choice to Skype the parents as we wanted to tell them all about the skydive - they just couldn’t believe we had done it. I was also feeling quite homesick, having Bex here is awesome but you'll be glad to know I’m almost ready for home to see all you lovely family and friends although I have been thinking about my next adventure hehe. By 10 we ready for our first experience of the Greyhound bus which turned out to be average, strangely nowhere near as nice as the ones from...

May 6, 2012 - Magnetic Island

Nov 19, 2010 - Magnetic Island

We arrived bleary eyed at Townsville at 5.30am, the port for magnetic island, and jumped straight on a quick 20min ferry to the island itself. Then caught a local bus up windy roads and past scenic vistas to bungalow bay resort, set in huts and with a koala sanctuary attached to it, perfect! No life until half an hour later when reception opened, when we were informed the boys had checked in the night before, but Jordan having discovered a leak in his hut had made a fuss and got to enjoy a double bed with Gaz in a private room instead. The...

Sep 27, 2010 - Horseshoe Bay

Mar 25, 2009 - Magnetic Island

A fairly early start from Cairns (7am) nearly got on the wrong bus (which also was taking people to Magnetic Island and was also Aus Experience!). So after introductions and jokes with the other 15 or so people, I was on my way to a Crocodile farm with our tour guide (Dino who was a 'true blue' Aussie). The crocodile farm was better than I expected after seeing 'salties' in the wild. I was amazed by the sheer size and speed of these predators. Also at the farm where Dingos, Cassowary, Emus, Wallabies and Kangaroos oh and snakes. We then got...

Mar 4, 2009 - Magnetic Island

Today we took a walk down the Strand, which is the main strip in Townsville. We noted that the beach was closed due to a Saltwater Croc seen in the area. We took the ferry over to Magnetic Island and bused and walked around there for the day.. Had lunch on the beach and talked to the Wallabies. The beaches had warnings about the Stinger (jelly fish) so we only went in up to our knees.. Then a walk back down the Strand for ice cream for supper ... There were a lot of for sale signs on the Strand.. very tempting... If not for the heat,...
