Mar 8, 2008 - Happy Anniversary on Magnetic Island

Here are some pics from our time on Magnetic Island. We had a nice time there with some great weather and a nice place to stay. We rented a little car called a moke (4 gears and a rusty old body) and booted around the island for a day. We sat on the beach and soaked up some sun and went for a nice hike up to some old forts that overlooked the whole island. There was a wildlife santuary at our place so we had a small tour there one day. We got to play with lizards, snakes, koala's and even a small crocodile. We've got some good pictures to...

Mar 7, 2008 - Here Comes The Sun - Magnetic Island

I decided to jump on the Oz bus that had arrived the previous day rather than wait for one to come later, and risk not getting through the river. So we chanced it on the news that it might be passable. We got to the bridge - that was not a bridge anymore - and waited half an hour before we could go across. The water was swishing about over the road, the surrounding fields were all just flooded. As soon as we made it through, within 10 minutes we found sun. It was a great feeling. We were driving towards Townsville but more specifically the...

Jan 30, 2008 - Magnetic Island and Mokeing around!

Well we went over to Magnetic island from Townsville. When we got off the ferry we decided to hire a mini moke to scoot around the island in, it was pretty cool with a picture of the Bundaberg bear on the bonnet. We spent our two days exploring the island, swimming at Horseshoe Bay and in the pool at the hostel. We had a very nice room at the hostel and didn't really get up too much apart from driving round in the moke.

Dec 14, 2007 - Magnetic Island and Mission Beach

Well since the whitsunday its sure been an anti caimax. We left Airlie Beach (where I bumped into Joanne Kirk, girl from my high school, small world hey) on a 6 hour journey to Townville where we all had to get the ferry 20mins across to Magnetic Island. We'd heard nothing but raving from our bus drivers about this place, how good the hostel is, the food, the party atmosphere. etc. When we arrived we were very suprised to find a massive bar with hardly anyone there and to be honest a little run down, a small swimming pool, and hostel...

Nov 3, 2007 - Slacker

Hey Guys, Yes....I've been slacking big time. I'm sorry, there has been ALOT going on. Lol. No excuses. Anyway, this will have to be quick because I'm about to run out of minutes on this computer. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've left my cozy home in Airlie Beach (sniff sniff) and I'm currently on Magnetic Island, on my way up to Cairns later today. Maybe. I really have no plan. Long story. So much to tell you all, but I SERIOUSLY can't right this second, I will try to get on the computer again when I get to Cairns though, and I...

Ang's Australia Trp

Sep 27, 2007 - Mission Beach and Magnetic Island

Well I think the last couple of days have been the busiest so far! After coming back from Cape Tribulation we had one last night in Cairns then got on a bus to Mission Beach. A couple of hours later we were all checked in and Jo was nervously awaiting for the skydiving people to come and pick her up. When he did arrive I decided to hop in the bus as well and try and get a few pictures from the ground. I was dropped off at the landing site while Jo was whisked away to the airport, looking a little scared. About an hour later and she appeared...

Grand Day Out

Aug 24, 2007 - The deep blue

Well I hope no one has been worried about me as this is probably the longest break I've had without writing anything, but I am alive and kicking so no worries there. As Im sure you are all aware by now I am having an amazing time out here and the past few days have just emphasised it even more. I arrived on Magnetic island on Sunday after a frantic decision making session. I had always planned on comming here to do a diving course but planed on going with a company called 'Base' to do my SSI course. However on walking around Townsville...

Jun 17, 2007 - Magnetic Island

Arrived at Base in Magnetic Island after a 5 hour bus journey up from Airlie Beach (with a foot and dairy obsessed driver). The weather is rubbish again, but the hostel looks great! Right on the beach with a great vibe about the place, all that is needed now is a bit of sun. Had a pretty quiet night huddling in the open sided, covered bar from the wind and rain. 18th Woke up to the sound of pounding rain, it's not looking like it will be a nice day again! Apparently magnetic island suffers from 8/9 days of sunshine a year! How lucky I am I...

Rich Goes Travelling

Jun 13, 2007 - Magnetic Island & Mission Beach

Well, after having a good time in Airlie it was time to move on again and catch up with the gang, now including the Swiss girls. The bus /ferry journey was quite a good laugh as met Kate who I knew previously from East Coast and 2 of her friends, so just chatted most of the way. Eventually turned up in the pouring rain, the 1st day of rain in 4 months in what is known as the sunniest place in Australia ... ruddy typical!! Anyway, we arrived at the hostel, and Linda came down to greet me, checked in, etc, etc ... and headed off to my room...

Murray's On Tour !!

May 19, 2007 - Magnetic Island

Met up with lisa again (farmstay), staying at cool hostal- base- right on the beach. Maggie island is the sunniest place in Oz with 320 days sunshine a year. 1st day spent snorkelling with lisa- current meant we were getting all the silt from the channel work going on but still saw some fish and clams, then me, lisa & her oz cowboy-boyfriend-of-the-moment took a walk up to the headland for sunrise- making loadsa noise on way to scare off death adders as there was loads about apparently-7th deadliest snake in world, they'd killed 9 dogs on...

Jul 14, 2001 - The Great Magnetic Island Adventure

Saturday morning bright and early we set off for this great adventure. Down to the Ferry Boat, which you can take your car also if you want, but we opted not to this time. It is about a 20-minute boat ride to "Maggie" where you land on the only dock on the island. The cove that you come into is magnificent but you don't know at this time what awaits you. Rick has the backpack and paces up and down the ferry as we cruise over, going from front to back so he will not miss anything; the view from both angles is outstanding. Off the ferry and a...
