Nov 3, 2010 - Magnetic Island

Few more hours on the bus and we arrive at Townsville, apparently the second largest town in Queensland, and I'm sorry to report that it doesn't look much. No worries as we weren't really stopping here anyway. It was the gateway to Magnetic Island. Quick ferry ride (literally 20 mins) and we were there. Staying in a place called Bungalow Bay Koala Village YHA on Horseshoe Bay, a lot of names, true. Chose this place as we were going to meet up with Sania and her friend Phoebe when they arrived the next day. Seemed nice, rustic wooden A frame...

Jun 2, 2010 - Magnetic Island

While on Magnetic Island I partied, hired a topless car, snorkelled, walked and went horseriding. We walked over a hill to get to Radical Bay and on our way back we could smell smoke and hear eucalyptus leaves exploding and I was very worriewd that we were going to be caught in a bush fire. Luckily as we got to the bottom we met some fire fighters who told us that it was a controlled fire! On my last day I went for a bush and beach horseride where you ride through the bush for two hours then take the saddles off the horses and ride them...

Mar 24, 2010 - cairns-auckland

Oct 20, 2008 - Magnetic Island

Well as you can see I have moved from Cairns. I have gone further down the coast to a place called Magnetic Island. It is beside Townsville Which is on the mainland. The place I am staying is beautiful. There are palm trees everywhere and lots of wildlife. I am staying in a kind of Tipi tent. It has a raised plastic platform kind of like a kids plastic sand tray and it is a kind of hexagonal shape. The roof is a plastic type of canvas. I is quite unusual and pretty cool. I also get it to myself which is a bonus. Well I arrived on Maggie...

May 29, 2008 - Magnetic Island

We got off the bus at Townsville where we stayed overnight before catching the half an hour fery to Magnetic Island. The brochure on the ferry boasted of the great climate on Magnetic Island enjoyng 320 sunny days a year. After the poor weather of the past week we were a bit sceptical but the weather turned out really good. We stayed at a part of the island called Horseshoe Bay which has a few bars and restaurants along the beachfront. At our hostel we made friends with a nice couple called Sonia and Steve who were on holiday from Brisbane....

Monday 19 May - Magnetic Island Heading to Townsville courtsey of Greyhound Australia - very efficient, clean and informative - and 2 Adam Sandler DVDs on board. Don't know if that's a bonus or not! From Townsville it was a ferry to Magnetic Island (so called because James Cook's compasss allegedly went hay-wire at this point, and he thought the island was... MAGNETIC! Others say he was beginning to...

Apr 11, 2008 - Magnetic Island

The morning after my sailing trip I was up early again in search of breakfast before catching the Oz bus. I walked into McDonald's and someone intentionally bumped into me - turned out it was Nathan! We caught up over breakfast and then I was off again. This time my travels have landed me on Magnetic Island. It's a 20 minute ferry ride from Townsville (my next stop) and there is literally nothing to do here but enjoy the island's 320 annual days of sunshine. I'm staying at a fantastic backpackers resort right on the beach. There is a nice...
