Aug 13, 2007 - Mackay

Well I arrived thismorning at the delightful time of 4.30 in the morning. My first impresions of the place is that there isn't that much here. Its very much a working town, but I'll get to see plenty of it in the next few days as I can't leave til Thursday. The only day I can do the platapus walk is on Wednesday and its an al day thing. On a different note, its has been informed to me that there are often occasions that I write too much for people to read during their short breaks or time on the computers. Well I'm affraid I am still going...

Mar 6, 2007 - Mackay

Off to Mackay today - to see Kate - who stayed with me for a while 2 years ago - really looking forward to catching up with her and to see how she is doing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have had just a fab few days. I have been completely spoilt - which has been lovely! Kate met me at the airport and we drove to her parents house - who live about 40 minutes out of Mackay. Their home in set in 100's of acre's of land that engulf hills down to the sea - thus no-one can build near them. The...

Feb 18, 2007 - Day 158 - Mackay

We stopped at Mackay simply as it was close to the Whitsundays and we'd a cheap flight booked from there to Sydney. As it turns out, it has a quaint little central town area. After a very quick look round, it was back to the hotel and a day in front of the movie channel recovering from last night's wine.

Jan 29, 2007 - Mackay, Eungella and the Elusive Platypus!

At 4.40pm on Saturday I got on the Greyhound from Noosa to Mackay, settled nicely in my window seat, 5A. I find it difficult to sleep whilst travelling so just listened to my music (which is getting a bit boring after nearly 5 months of the same songs!). At 10.45pm we had a meal break, and when I got back on the bus, the girl who had been given the seat next to mine, had stolen my window seat, I wasn't very happy but she was saying how she felt ill and she was practically asleep and so I just let her steal my seat. But when we next stopped...

Nov 16, 2006 - Mackay

We arrived to Kay and Regs house (family friends of mine) very dirty and smelly, straight off the boat at the Whitsundays! They very kindly had a huge homecooked meal waiting for us, and we stayed up for a while chatting. Reg took Donal straight to the poolroom whewre a few beers were waiting. We had a lovely few days with them. They were very good and took us around their area for the day. Unfortunately the Platapus didn't come out to play at Eungella National Park but some turtles did so they made up for it.We drove around the beaches at...

Oct 3, 2006 - Mackay

Airlie beach to Mackay Getting up was torturous this morning, as we were both feeling the effects of the night before. The sun seemed hotter than usual and was burning a hole in my back through a small hole in the curtain. In the end it was easier to get up and out rather than cook in the van (although it took Tim a bit longer to figure this out). We stopped off to do some internet on the way out of town, and after a row about whether or not to eat Macdonalds we settled for a meat pie on the way. The drive was taxing, as I had a headache...

Jun 17, 2006 - Angus' Grand Adventure

We thought we'd kick our website off by recording our weekend trip to Mackay, Sarina and Yeppoon to catch up with the families, and to send Angus off to his new Mum and Dad - the start of his own grand adventure. After a really long car ride, Angus got to catch up with his mate Jed in Yeppoon, enjoyed lunch in Sarina and then went on to Mackay where he got his first taste of his new home with Joan & Ross (Liz's aunty and uncle). We think he's going to love the tropics, hopefully he doesn't send Joan and Ross troppo :-). We're confident...

May 19, 2006 - Cape Hillsbourough - Mundine v Green and Freddie v Kangaroo

KM: 5600 We camp at Cape Hillsbourough which is beautiful. At low tide we walk accross to Wedge Island. Everywhere there are millions of soldier crabs marching across the sand. The sand itself is shiny with lots of gold mica particles. Still raining & overcast. So wet in fact we actually put up the annexe walls. Everything in the annexe is wet & muddy. Washing machine's are $3/load, drying a load completely costs about $6 a load so we just put up with it! No chance of drying anything on line's at present. Jo takes kids on a walk to see the...

May 18, 2006 - On the move again

Why stay put when you can cruise on down the coast? It was cool last night and the breeze coming in the campervan was greatly appreciated - that is until just after 1 a.m. when a few people decided to have a gathering at the picnic table in the park beside us. They had their bicycles, some kind of take away and drinks and chatted away at a volume just a bit more than necessary at that time of night. Then the sprinklers came on. We managed to get a bit more sleep, but decided that it would be better to move on than to experience the same...

May 15, 2006 - Sarina - more rain

KM: 4800 Bit of a letdown - we had been told that Sarina beach was a beutiful place to stay- and it would have been had the caravan park not been demolsished. This unfortunately is a recurring theme happening up the Qld coast- money talks at the end of the day and developers with their brown paper bags win out. Felt like a waste of a stay. The beach was very nice though & would have been great in better weather. At the local park Soli learns to jump off a swing while swinging aka superboy. Instead we stayed at a child unfriendly caravan...

Apr 27, 2006 - Mackay
