Oct 19, 2012 - O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat

We just spent two nights at O'Reilly's Rainforest Guesthouse. What an amazing place! The road up the mountain has over 300 curves, over 23 km, with many one-lane stretches and no guard rails. Our villa overlooked the mountains below, with a balcony with birds coming to visit you when you went out. We paid for a full-day of private birding on Thursday. Our guide was Glen T. Oct 13, 2008 - Driving around mountain tops!

Monday 13th Oct – Today Gill and I spent our last day on the Gold Coast driving to a couple of mountain tops. Our first venture was to Laminton National Park which is quite high up at about 2000ft above sea level. However, I made my first mistake in driving in Australia. I set off without too much gas in the car expecting to find a gas station in the National Park. No chance! I had to drive down the windy mountain road for 50 kms to find gas!! So rather than go all the way back up again we decided to go to O’Reilly’s Plateau. What a road!...

Mar 23, 2008 - Lamington Nationalpark

Heute fuhren wir (zu zweit) ins Hinterland (so nennt man hier die Gegenden fernab der Kueste), genauer in den Lamington Nationalpark. Die Strasse zum sehr bekannten O'Reillys ist sehr kurvig, teilweise steil und ist fast mit einer Pass-Strasse in den Alpen zu vergleichen. Oben auf 900m ueber Meer angekommen, genossen wir den Regenwald. Die Idee, am Ostersonntag den Menschenmengen an der Kueste zu entkommen, ist jedoch nicht ganz gelungen. Denn auch hier hatte es sehr viele Leute, der Verkehr war auf der sehr schmalen Strasse ziemlich...
