Aug 10, 2015 - Day 44 / 45 Innisfail

They do exist! Today we saw a cassowary and he had about half a dozen chicks with him. We saw him twice. He was crossing the road as we drove into Etty Bay and then he appeared again on the beach a short time later, both times with his striped chicks tailing along behind. Apparently it is the male cassowary who looks after the chicks. Mum was nowhere to be seen. This was our main reason for going to Etty Bay and when we got there - early, like 11:00am, we could not get a site. So, you might think we'd have said, "OK, we've seen the...

May 14, 2014 - Kerumba to Innisfail

After spending a super wet night at Innisfail where the river rose a metre overnight and caravans were getting bogged down trying to get out. We only travelled 17ks to Paranella Park where we have been before and because we came back before a certain timeframe we didn't have to pay the entry fee. This a fantastic place and the photos don't really do it justice. A must see if your in the area. Its a beautiful part of the country where the forest is amazing.

Jul 7, 2013 - Sunday - Innisfail & Surrounds

7th July Have woken to a cloudy day with some scudding showers. The sun is trying hard to shine. Today we will head to Innisfail so hope the weather holds. Innisfail was established in 1879 and originally named Geraldton and was renamed at a public meeting in 1910. We know we are getting close when we see the golden arches billboard. Innisfail is famous for Art Deco buildings, built after the cyclone in 1918 which destroyed almost every building. We are surprised to see the shops are open on a Sunday. We enjoyed walking around looking at...

May 1, 2012 - Paronella Park

15th October Innisfail Woke up to doscover the bat place was shut so we headed straight up to cape tribulation beach where there was a minuture forest of mangroves right on the water break on the beach. Good day for wildlife. Filulfilled we made our way back down and crossed the ferry...

Nov 30, 2008 - Left Cairns on our Road Trip - 1 Lake & 3 Waterfalls. Innesfail.

This morning we got up and................picked up our hire car baby!!! We are renting a 1.8 litre Toyota Corolla for 22 days, dropping it off when we get to Sydney. We did kinda want to do the authentic backpacker type thing and hire a campervan but our brand new car (which won't break down!) with super duper aircon cost the three of us 820 AUD (about GBP 350) in total, and seeing as the camper vans (which are big piles of crud and break down every 15 minutes!) and cost AUD 1,400 (GBP 600!). So all in all we are stoked about the deal we...

Goodbye Macdonalds, Goodbye IGA, You have been the one for me, Goodbye KFC, Goodbye Subway, You have been the one for me, I'm so hungry baby, I'm so hungry.......

Nicole In Oz!!

Apr 8, 2005 - Whitsundays & Cairns

Hi, hope you are all well - heres what we have been up to over the last few weeks. Manly The waves were massive on the day of our surf lesson, Leia decided to give it a miss. I paid 25 quid to get totally knackered, thrown all over the place and to drink gallons of sea water - money well spent. Its a lot harder than it looks ! Did not really enjoy Manly - very tacky and cannot understand why people back home rave about it. 29 March - 4 April We flew up to Airlie beach in the Whitsundays and stayed here for five nights. Both liked it here....
