Aug 23, 2017 - Heading South - Our stay @ Ingham

Heading south stopped at Babinda for breakfast and to wait for Bob and Dannie Donaldson who have been up to Cooktown and now ready to meet up with us once again. Bob is about an hour behind us so we are heading off to Ingham where we will meet them @ Sue Selwoods' house @ Forrest Beach. The Denhert's and us have arrived and I'm so busy talking and catching up with Sue that I almost forgot that Bob and Dannie don't have the address. Dear me called Bob and they just arrived and are parked around the corner at the beach - no problems within a...

RUSSANDY 2016

Aug 20, 2015 - Day 54 - 55 / Ingham - TYTO Wetlands

The TYTO Wetlands are attached to the Ingham Info Centre and you have to register there (and pay your $10 per night) to stay in their van area. It is very pretty on the banks of the lake with purple water lillies and lots of bird life including little birds who walk on the lilly pads. Unfortunately, though, there are no facilities here except for toilets at the Info when it is open. So we have to use ours and also contain our grey water. We do not have a grey water tank but they were happy for us to collect it in a bucket and empty it into...

Jan 29, 2014 - Paluma National Park & Running away from the cyclone

Monday 27/01/2014 We arrived a Big Crystal Creek and by the time we set up and stoked up the fire left by previous people at the site and a quick walk around shows only one other group and a broken down Ute at the camp ground, the toilets were a bit messy, but to be expected after a full camp over the weekend. A gent rolled in with a trailer and asked if we could help him load up the broken down Ute, which we did, apparently the driver got spooked by a roo and skidded off the road into a tree, some pretty good damage done. We were now...

Aug 18, 2010 - Jourama Falls - postcard rock pools!

August 14th Staying at Lucinda for 2 nights. Fished off the old pier in the morning. We caught 5 fish! None not quite big enough to keep for dinner but exciting never the less! Rode to the marina in the afternoon, a very popular spot. Some very nice boats to admire! August 15th Had been told about the Jourama waterfalls in Paluma National Park by some ex-Melbournians who now live at Cape Tribulation so this was our next destination. First stopped at the Wallaman falls, the highest single drop falls in Australia. A great site, there was...

Jul 11, 2010 - Still at Ingham

Ingham, in the rain. We were awakened this morning by the sound of rain so after some discussion at the tourist info place we decided that the Wallaman Falls would be a waste of time, as the clouds would obscure everything… So much for the Honeywell weather station suggesting today was going to be sunny….. Drove south to the Frosty Mango then returned via Jaruma falls. Very picturesque but one needs a level of fitness to do the walk to the lookout. After the sealed path ran out it was a scramble across boulders and stepping-stones in the...

Watsons on the road

Jul 9, 2010 - Ingham

Ingham, and no sign of the chicken factory…………. Drove out to lovely seaside Lucinda this morning after doing some shopping. I must say though that I was rightfully in a very self righteous mood after breakfasting on grilled red grapefruit, local of course (3/$1) we bought along with some local bananas and more pineapples, keep this up and I’ll be hanging upside down in the trees. Ahhhh not to worry I hear there is cream lamington for afternoon tea. We bought some local tea and it is a very nice brew, speaking of which I was gutted on...

BENS TRIP!

Jun 28, 2005 - Arriving in Airlie 28th and 29th

16 hours later I arrived in Airlie beach, picked up by the hostel bus, got there and had to wait a further 3 hours to check in. Very tied, I sorted my stuff out, grabbed a shower and went down to see about going sea kayaking. Unfortunately it had been cancelled for the 29th due to a think fog, so I chilled for that day and the next each evening meeting great people, drinking and sharing the crack with them, but didn't make it into town either night as I was too tired. On the second night I went back to a group's cabin and we were smoking...

Feb 24, 2005 - Wallaman Falls and back to Townsville

After leaving Mission Beach we drove down a long dirt track and up a very steep mountain to get to Wallaman Falls, Australia's highest and 3rd highest in the world. We parked the car and stood gazing in awe at the cascade from the lookout before deciding to do the supposed moderate walk down to the base. Half an hour later we were surrounded by trees whose leaves sting you if they touch your skin (and hurt in water for 2 years afterwards) picking our way over some very dodgy rocky surfaces. Two hours later we emerged again at the top but it...

Feb 8, 2005 - Ingham

Arrived early Tuesday. I am staying here for a couple of days, found a room over a pub for $14 a night. The trip from Cairns has been eventful. The hot weather has meant that cycling has been split into sections. 0600-1030 and 1700-1930 (this routine is flexible especially if the cricket is on the radio)
