Oct 22, 2015 - Hervey Bay - visit Maryborough

THURSDAY 22nd October Today we go to see Mary Heritage (a lovely lady) at Mary-borough, the city which has a lifesize bronze statue of Mary Poppins. On arrival in Maryborough we checked out the Markets. Which were in a different location to what we remembered. Found out that they had been relocated while a major streetscape reconstruction was under way, and today was their last day in this temporary location. Tonight will be a Street-scape Party to celebrate the completion of the project. They will have live music, street stalls, adjacent...

Oct 21, 2015 - Hervey Bay- doin' nuttin' AGAIN

WEDNESDAY 21st October Jan treated us all to one of her Dream Pot creations for morning tea. She made two small date loaves in the pot - one of which was demolished at morning tea - fresh, hot and yummeee. We had to do some walking around the shops after that. Duck into Aldi to replenish important supplies like biscuits and chocolate, whizz into the fruit shop to avail ourselves of the $1.99 Lady Finger bananas, then a quick call into the Reject Shop for some coat hangers for Hazel - who has been knitting frenetically while we've been...

Oct 20, 2015 - Hervey Bay - botanic gardens

TUESDAY 20th October This time at Hervey Bay is veeerrrry reeellaaaaxxing. Not much stirs in these two vans before 8:00am. Then there's no rush in doing the simplest of chores. Why can't life be always like this? [Because some of the things we do back home we love doing - and the folk back home leave a big hole in our lives when we're away - - that's why] Still, following the slow routine, it took us until about 12 to get to the Boat Harbour where we ahd decided to have a poke around. My goodness there is a lot of assets tied up doing very...

Oct 19, 2015 - Hervey Bay - doin' nuttin'

MONDAY 19th October The two Rons were up early this morning - another soccer match (talk about being fanatical). The Under 17 Mens Division of the World Cup was being played between Australia (the Joeys - as opposed to the Socceroos for the men's and Matildas for the womens) and Germany. It was a bit sad watching the Ozzies get trounced in the first half but they rallied in the second for a final score of 4:1. It's been a bit of fun for RonG watching so much soccer while we've been away but I'm not sure the enthusiasm will be sustained once...

Oct 18, 2015 - Hervey Bay

SUNDAY 18th October This morning we attended the Baptist Church located on the approach side of the Maryborough - Hervey Bay road. What an inspiration that was. We were warmly welcomed and given a Visitors Welcome pack (which we inadvertently left behind - you just can't trust these grey nomads to be responsible any more). The church was missing over a 100 of their members who were on a church family camp, but there was still over 200 in the church. Their auditorium has the largest capacity of any on the HB coast, so is used often by...

Oct 17, 2015 - Hervey Bay - markets and Whale Festival

SATURDAY 17th October We attacked the day with vigour today. RnH were up and running and were keen to go for a swim even before breakfast. The water was very cool but tolerable if we kept moving. High tide wasn't until 11:45 but there was plenty of water an hour before so we frolicked like a group of teenagers - well!!!! It sounds good when you put it in writing but the visual image conjured up by words didn't quite match reality. After breakfast for RnH we all headed off to the Urangun markets (7 to 1pm - - but it's now 11:30). An...

Oct 16, 2015 - Hervey Bay

FRIDAY 16th October There was a little more rain during the night but no wind, so provided no threat. The morning has dawned with a clear blue sky and a light breeze. Beautiful. I'm sure the fishermen who are looking forward to the start of a fishing comp this weekend are getting very excited and looking forward to getting onto the water in such good conditions. RonG unhitched the van so we could get in a quick drive to see what the various outlooks were like at Lake Monduran (Fred Haigh Dam). We were all glad we didn't have the van on when...

Oct 21, 2014 - Ridiculous

David and Barry went out very early this morning to play golf. Rosemary and I had breakfast together and when the guys came back we cooked bacon and egg sandwiches for them. Later Rosemary and I went out shopping looking around the shops in Hervey Bay and checking out Harry's Variety store and the Aldi supermarket. I have never before bought anything from Aldi's as I have many times walked through their store and walked out again without buying anything. You need to have someone with you who knows the products. We joined David and Barry...

Oct 20, 2014 - Relaxed Hervey Bay

Early morning is the time for a bike ride but even so there were plenty of walkers out for an early walk or ride. There is a great path which goes along the beach front and we rode along there to the Pialba caravan beach park where we have stayed before. There were so many people walking along the path especially with their dogs which didn't want to do what their owners wanted and in consequence it made it difficult to avoid them. The wind has died down and it is a lovely day especially for a bike ride. We got back and had breakfast and...

Oct 19, 2014 - A special place

We had a lazy breakfast and lots of chats, Sitting outside in the sunshine. After lunch we went bike riding along the beach front path and sat on the grass overlooking the beach to drink our mango smoothies which were very nice. The nicest We've tasted. We got them from the cafe across the road. The caravan park, the Happy Wanderers is close to the beach and is a very nice park. Tonight we had pea and potato curry with fruit salad and Icecream for dessert.

Oct 18, 2014 - Hervey Bay

We left 1770 at just before 7 am and dumped at the dump spot about two kilometers away. We set off then to travel to Bundaberg and catch up with Emma who we had met in Darwin. When we arrived we had a lovely chat with her mum and dad and then she took us to the Bagara beach and we had breakfast at a cafe there. We had a lovely chat and time together and then she took us for a drive to see the beach at Bundaberg just nearby. It has been so good to catch up. We did some shopping and got fuel and by that time it was one o'clock and Rosemary...

Aug 1, 2014 - Lazy day in Hervey Bay

Today was a laid back day. Light breakfast followed by a morning walk on the beach for an hour. Had a cruisy time for the day just relaxing, getting the sand crabs and prawns shelled ready for dinner and meeting some new arrivals next door to us. We can't believe how many people we meet are from Newcastle. Dinner tonight is sand crab linguinie and a nice wine. Tomorrow will be turf and surf cooked on our BBQ. Bugger of a life I know but we will perservere with it for now.
