Oct 21, 2018 - A streetcar named "Helensvale"

Off to Helensvale on the streetcar named Helensvale. We could have walked 500 metres to the 777 bus stop and taken the bus to the terminus but instead we drove to Pacific Fair and snuck out the entrance and walked over to the terminus for this was to be an End to End then back again experience. The G link system has been obviously well thought out, shaded bike shelters at each stop and chilled still or aerated water at each stop, your bottle or theirs. The ticketing machine was easy to get the gist of and we bought return Concessions @...

Oct 20, 2018 - Off to the Hinterland

Off to the hinterland today. No not as far as O'Riellys, once along that road is enough... So we went to Canungra and Beaudessert. Its funny how revisiting somewhere can bring back strange memories. When in 1970 I completed training at JTC the chief instructor had earned himself the nick name “And errr consequently” because that's about all he had to say. Due to the heavy rain over night the creeks have all risen “and err consequently” we cant practice creek crossing today “and errr consequently” your programs will need to be amended AND it...

Oct 19, 2018 - A day with the birds

Off to Currumbin today as we thought it would be the “tame” option for the mandatory theme park visit. The weather was on our side today as well. By the time we arrived the animals and birds had already been fed so most were asleep in their dens. The Brush turkeys were building their huge nests of forest litter and other birds were wandering around. They also have rope courses here for people who think climbing on ropes for pointless exercise is fun, I wonder at the roping course at Canungra do they have safety harness and safety helmets...

Oct 17, 2018 - Gold Coast

And so here we are among the chaos of the Gold Coast, packed in like kippers at the Nobby Beach Holiday Village. The people next to me have their awning guy ropes under my Van. They are going to get a shock when I need to walk along the side of the Van to empty the toot.... It was an easy drive along the highway getting here, the Bruce Hwy has had several realignments since we last drove along this section. Some interesting Bill Boards that caught my attention. “ Put your faith in Jesus, he will guide you home” Well I could do that too if I...

Apr 17, 2018 - Home - UPDATE NOTES

Hi All, Departing Sydney we headed for a famous wine growing region of N.S.W. called the Hunter valley, named after the river that flows through the area. Lots and lots of wineries charging exorbitant prices for wines you can buy locally for half the price but they and the vineyards make the environment look really great. The area also features the Hunter Valley Gardens, a garden started in 1999 and is on over 50 acres, they were beautiful to say the least, the photos tell their own story but the garden is made up of several themed gardens...

Jul 3, 2017 - Gold Coast - UPDATE NOTES

Hi all, And so the trip comes to an end as we leave Hong Kong for home. Hong Kong supplied us with heat and humidity, something different to what we have had, in fact we have been blessed with fantastic weather, never too cold and only 2 half days of rain and then only one effected what we did. In HongKong we went to the top of The Peak overlooking the city and took the cable tram down, steep too, we went to the Stanley Market. We lunched, coffeed with Marcos niece, her husband and his sister plus took a return ferry with them to Discovery...

Oct 4, 2016 - Heading to NSW and daylight saving

It was a fast run down from Mooloolaba so we decided to sail as far into Moreton Bay as possible rather than stop in the northern part. We ended up at Peel Island which is popular with the locals and being the Saturday of a long week end and the end of the school holidays, it was certainly busy. We have not seen that many boats anchored in one place since Airlie Beach. Moreton Bay was also busy with many pleasure craft and fishermen enjoying the fine weather. The Marine radio chatter was non stop. There were many whale sightings along our...

Jun 12, 2016 - On the road again

Although the weather after the storm cleared to warm sunny days, the seas remained angry with a large swell. We ended staying in Coffs Harbour a longer than we had hoped and has put us behind schedule. If it looks like we cannot make it to Darwin before cyclone season starts, we will just holiday in the Whitsundays and sail back from there. Coffs Harbour marina hopes to be reopen to visiting vessels in 3 months, in time for our return. I suspect the circumnavigation will be "on" again next year. Whilst in Coffs Harbour we went for long...
