Die letzten zwei Tage haben wir nun also auf Dunk Island verbracht. Die Insel liegt 130km suedlich von Cairns. Die Insel ist sehr schoen. Das Hotel wurde erst letzten Juli wiedereroeffnet, nachdem auf der Insel im Maerz 2006 durch den Sturm Larry sehr viel zerstoert wurde. Das Hotel selber erstrahlt wieder in neustem Glanz, doch ansonsten sind immer noch Spuren zu sehen: viel Schwemmholz und abgestorbene Korallen und Muscheln an den Straenden. May 16, 2006 - Back on Terra Firma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither of us heard the anchor go out or the engines shut down last night. I think we were both pretty tired and the little white pills helped me nod off and sleep well as soon as my head hit the pillow around 11. Captain Dave's parting words last night were that we would weigh anchor at 6 and head into Cairns. Jeff's sinuses are acting up - probably due to the salt water he sniffed from time-to-time during our snorkel - and he's awake a bit earlier - of course so am I. At 5:30 there's the distinctive sound of diesel engines and anchors...

Aug 29, 2004 - To Mission Beach, Wallaman Falls.

We left Townsville and got on our way to Mission Beach. On the way we took a lengthy detour to Wallaman Falls, the tallest single drop waterfall in Australia. The landsape north of Townsville is now completely different, it has changed from being brown and dry to vey green as we enter the tropical rainforests. The road to the falls was a narrow winding road through the rain forest, on this raod we passed a couple of cows who were 'at it' in the middle of the road (we were too slow with the camera as we were laughing too much).
