We started the journey off this morning and went in serch of the WW11 plane wrecks. It's amazing how the pieces are still in tack after all this time. As we drive today we are surrounded by smoke and in some places fire. We soon understand that the cape is in preperation for the wet season. They must still follow traditional aborginal methods and burn off all the scrub in order for the trees to have best chance of survival or possibly just to reduce the possiblity of large bushfires endangering the people. Aug 14, 2012 - Weipa to Musgrave Roadhouse

Had a great stay here in Weipa, definitely surprised by this town, wasn't expecting much but it's like a mini oasis in the outback. Could easily live here, beaches are picture perfect, what a shame it is that you are unable to swim here! Weipa is a mining town but is unlike ones such as Blackwater which is jut filled with singles camps. Here it seems it is much more family based, there is one area of dongas but mostly it's nice houses. Aug 7, 2012 - Lakeland to Archer River Roadhouse

Lakeland to Archer River 370kms, mostly gravel, partial bitumen Leaving Lakeland we had planned to travel 220kms to Musgrave Roadhouse,  but we had a really good run, most of the time we were able to travel between 90-100ks an hour as the road wasnt too corrugated. We were amazed at how many people are up here! We are passing other vehicles every 3 minutes or so! We arrived at Musgrave around 11, pulled out our trusty Cape York atlas & guide and decided we'd be better off to push on to Archer River. Filled up with diesel at Musgrave, $1.74...
