Mar 29, 2017 - Yuleba to Chinchilla

We were on the road by just after 9am again this morning, didn't really have to be, but the sun is coming up earlier than we are used too! We stopped briefly in Miles to pick up what should hopefully be the last few groceries until we get home. My plan is for the fridge and pantry in the van to be as close to empty as possible when we get home, so that I can just start afresh at home. Just out of Miles I think every member of the police force from Chinchilla was at a road block they had set up on both sides of the highway. Every one was...

May 22, 2016 - Brisbane to Chinchilla

Sunday 22 May 2016 Up early to do last bit of packing so we could be on the way around 9am. Amazing, the target was achieved! Nice easy drive to our first stop at Helidon where we met up with the Bullochs and enjoyed a cuppa and chat. Next stop was in Dalby, where lunch was enjoyed in the park. After a nice break and another chat, we headed off to Chinchilla and our overnight stop at the Chinchilla Weir, arriving around 3.15pm. A lovely free camp ($5 pn if you want power), and a popular spot with lots of other vans. There is plenty of room...

Mt Surprise Reunion

May 22, 2016 - Brisbane to Chinchilla

22/5/2016 Sunday. Left home at 9am as planned. Met Pam and Don at Helidon for a cuppa and catch-up. We've all been so busy over the last few weeks that it lovely to have on chance to just chat. Moved on to Dalby for our lunch stop and a bit more chat before before heading off to Chinchilla Weir free camp for the night. Too crowded to bother squeezing into a powered spot, and happy to have a bit of space non-powered. The water levels were quite low. Early to bed. A great day.

May 17, 2013 - RELAXING TIME

18th May 2013 Our stay at Doug's is almost over.....(read sad face here).... We will pull out on Monday but in the meantime I thought I better make use of all the coals from the campfire and do a brekky damper. Turned out great, slap on a bit of butter and some cream cheese and you have a feast. (Guess who forgot to pack the Golden Syrup?) The peace and quiet out here is DEAFENING. The wind in the trees, the early morning wake up Kookaburras and the smell of the open fire, you can't beat it. It does wonders for the stress levels and the...

May 17, 2013 - Out & About - Chinchilla

17th May We had a miserable cold, wet start to Thursday, clearing in the afternoon. Finally got to meet Doug who owns the property. He will be here till Monday. The sun is out and we have a beautiful morning. Time to head into town to do the washing and fill the cupboards. Before heading back to camp we had a walk around town. Strolling on the pedestrian walkway over the modern bridge [Eric Stewart Overbridge Walk]. There is a good view of the old Club Hotel, built in 1907. It is the only wooden hotel in Chinchilla that has not been razed...

May 11, 2013 - CHINCHILLA

12th May 2013. MOTHER'S DAY. Sure seems different being out here. We went for a drive out to the Weir this morning, plenty of vans making themselves at home but still prefer to be here at Doug's Place. It is a lot greener at the Weir than when we went out there a couple of years ago and there is actually water coming over the spillway too. Back into town and lunch of fish and chips from Salty's. Was quite nice too. We have a stew in the camp oven cooking nice and slowly and judging from the aroma wafting in the door it is going to taste...

May 10, 2013 - Meandarra To Chinchilla

8th May, 2013 We left Meandarra this morning and headed for Chinchilla. We thought we would have breakfast and fuel up in Condamine but it is even smaller than Meandarra. The Roads were slightly better, although still not up to scratch really. Thankfully the bikes are travelling a lot better since Rob fixed their mountings. There are a lot of Gas Pipeline/Drilling activities in the area and quite a few "camps" for the workers since we were this way two years ago. We arrived in Chinchilla and headed out to Doug's Place. It was almost a...

May 10, 2013 - Doug's Place

11th May We left Meandarra Wednesday morning. On our last evening we wandered up to the pub to partake of their $10 whiteboard menu. Excellent value, I enjoyed the crumbed steak with veges while Greg had the curried chicken. Blu and Elaine also had the crumbed steak a meal enjoyed by all. Always get good value meals in the small town pubs. I know I have been talking a lot about the condition of the roads but travelling from Meandarra to Condamine was a very scary drive. The roads were very narrow in very poor condition. A road train...

Sep 9, 2012 - Harbour town to Chinchilla via Toowoomba

Hit the road this morning traveling inland to a place called Chinchilla. Not sure what to expect but I'm imagining a little town in the middle of nowhere preparing to go through an enomous boom. We stop for an early lunch in Toowoomba little man is over the car and needs to run off some energy. Queens park has an amazing family orientated playground and after Marc chases joshie everywhere we convince him to stop for a sandwich and a drive of the old steam train. After lunch we hit the road and as we drive we realize we are seeing less...

May 8, 2011 - Chinchilla

4th May. Today we left Roma and headed for Chinchilla, we stopped for morning tea at Miles a small country town. We have decided to stay two nights at the Chinchilla Motel Caravan Park, not a great park, very old, but the amenities are clean enough. 5th May. Only reason we are stopping two days here is that we managed to get a Doctor’s appointment, we both need our flu jabs and I need a couple of new scripts. Chinchilla really doesn’t have a lot going for it, it’s basically a shopping hub for the mining industry and farms.
