Aug 15, 2010 - Charleville Queensland via Bourke

15.8.10 Charleville in south west Queensland is quite a pleasant country town and we booked ourselves in to a very well laid out caravan park attached to a 33,000 acre cattle station – 8 km out of town. This was a very restful stop, very quiet right out in the bush with a camp fire each night, stock horses grazing around the caravans and an amazing night sky with the stars being so bright in the clear air. The days were warm and fine but the temperature dropped to 3 degrees at night! We didn't expect it to be so cold in Queensland! Tomorrow...

Jun 28, 2010 - Rest Day

Beautiful morning at Charleville, no wind, clear skies but cool, about 1 degree overnight. Last night was so clear with all the stars and planets and full moon giving a wonderful show. Shame that Brian & Robyn picked the wrong night for the eclipse. Woke this morning to find that about 10 horses from our station were wandering around caravans, they seemed very tame and all the nomads were busy with their cameras. Today we are having a bit of a rest and will do some bush walks after lunch. Have been convinced to ring ahead for our...

Jun 27, 2010 - Charleville, Qld.

For the past few days we have had such a busy time since Dubbo that it has been hard to keep our diary up to date. After Bourke and further north past Cunnamulla to Nandoo Station we found that not only did we not have TV but no mobile signal or internet connection. Now on Sunday at Charleville we have some TV and intermittent phone/ internet signal and can update our log. Tuesday afternoon at Bourke’s Kidman caravan park we met several couples staying with us and in particular, Daryl & Meghan on one side and Joy and Perry on the other. We...

May 19, 2010 - Day 1 - Brisbane to Charleville

Day 1 report: Kilometres - 760 roadkill - 0 (but some kangaroos and wedge-tailed eagles came close!) breakdowns - 1 arguments 0 Not a bad first day really. As I write this all are in bed snoring except John who is reading and keeping me company. It was a truly glorious day for travelling - clear blue skies, and warm (until the sun set then the chill set in). The countryside changed dramatically: fields of cotton, wheat, sorghum, cattle and sheep paddocks, cyprus trees and prickly pear. For the last hour before arriving in Charleville we...

May 19, 2010 - Charleville

Charleville is our first stop on this 2 month trip. We are camping in luxury with a camp kitchen to cook and eat in tonight. We finally left Peter's factory in Carole Park at 8.30am this morning. All went well until Dalby where we had to replace an airconditioner idler pulley (faulty bearing). Luckly we had one of these in our vast array of spares. After that it was plain sailing through Roma and Mitchell to Charleville. Late in the day we passed quite a few kangeroos on the road as well as wedge tail eagles feasting on road kill. We...

May 20, 2007 - Charleville

20 May Charleville Only one night in Charleville (unfortunately) but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We will come back to spend more time - whenever! Visited both the "Save the Bilby" center and the "Cosmos Centre". Absolutely amazed at just how professional both of these are, yet they were developed by enthusiastic amateurs! Main railway station is historic . Facinating places Country towns. In the city, "show and tell" is usually toys etc. I saw kids coming home from school - bringing their sheep! Slight difficulty getting them...
