Jan 11, 2018 - Finally home

Very early start today under blue skies as we set off at about 7am from Monto, heading north. Good run through Biloela to Rocky where we fuelled up and had an early lunch at Hungry Jacks. On we went heading north with a sometimes tail wind. We stopped at Flaggy Rocky for the obligatory ice-cream before heading for Sarina, our stop for the night. When we got to Sarina it was only 2pm so we voted to keep going and arrived home at about 6pm. The road was quiet all the way but it was worrying to see it getting drier and drier the further we...

Oct 22, 2016 - Home

After morning tea we headed the few hours to home. Arrived just before lunch to a surprise - our home sitters were gone but they certainly left the place in a good state. So nice to come home to a clean verandah, shed and house! The end to another adventure ...... not as planned as we wanted and perhaps we didn't do all that we wanted with the weather intervening. Still a good trip with lots of memories for all.

Jan 16, 2015 - Final leg home by train

Spent the morning in the hot and humid conditions cleaning the motorhome and packing for the train. Left to go to the shopping centre and put the hatch up on the motor home because it was so hot. Spent morning doing mostly window shopping before Kerry and the boys went to the movies to see the Penguins of Madagascar while Mary caught up with Leisa and Annika for lunch. When the boys came out of the movies - it was pelting with rain. Eventually got back to motor home to find not as much rain as thought got in. Anyway took the bags to the...

Feb 9, 2014 - Airlie Beach to Ayr

Saturday 8th January We have not spent a lot of time checking out Rockhampton, which is a city and seems to have lots of attractions to see, we will do some on our return. Since we had changed direction trying to get away from the rain caused by Cyclone Dylan we missed quite a bit of the coast, so we are going to back track a bit to see some of these areas. We are heading towards MacKay today, (this is 370 kms trip), with the intention of staying in one van park and doing day trips out and about. After giving the caravan a bit of a wash...

Dec 14, 2012 - Home

Mary took the boys to Townsville to catch up with Nonno and the Gallon Family while I took the motor home straight home to Ayr. George was pleased to see us and it was great to come home to a clean and spacious home (after all this time in the motor home). Now the unpacking ..... We have had a great time - 142 days on the road around some of this country's most beautiful places. 22367 Kms of travel. Lifetime of memories and adventures. It is great being home but also sad that the journey has ended. Time to start planning the next...

Aug 14, 2009 - Alva Beach

It was from a company based on Alva Beach near Ayr that I booked the dive out to the S.S. Yongala, and what a day it turned out to be. The Yongala was commissioned in 1903 and sunk in a cyclone on the 23 March 1911. The Wreck was discovered in 1958 and it is now considered one of Australia's best dives due to the number of fish and corals that inhabit the wreck. The package included 2 dives on the wreck and I have to say that i have never seen some many large fish in one place before. I was told we saw some enormous Queensland Grouper, some...
