Jan 26, 2014 - The Real Travels Begin

It was quite a rush this morning to get packed up in time to not only be out by 10:00 amm but also to get to church by that time! On our own we could have done it but with Rach and Justin having no barriers for Cooper any more we invited them to have breakfast in our van where he could be trapped behind the table. We still got away at 10:00 and so would not have been too late if somone had not got us lost! I thought we had to turn left into the church street but after searching around (with the van on!) we finally found that we should have...

Oct 22, 2013 - Tweed/Coolangatta

19th- 23rd October Spending five nights in historic Tweed Heads. Setting up at the Pyramid caravan park we soon realise we are close to the Coolangatta airport. The park is nice with friendly people. A mix of over 50s retirement living with caravan sites. Close to large shopping centres and the beaches. As we are just over the border and we are also adjusting to day light saving. The border between Tweed Heads and Coolangatta caused problems for some and opportunities for others. The border cut straight through the village leaving one...

May 12, 2013 - Pottsville

May 12 - 17 A little coastal village called Pottsville in northern NSW was our next stop. Pottsville South tourist park is on the banks of Mooball Creek. As we were only about a 30 minute drive south of Coolangatta we made a few trips up there for Davo to surf near the famous Snapper Rocks, we also went sightseeing at Mount Tamborine on the Skywalk, and went to the Outback Spectacular Show, which didn't disappoint us, (although we had a few sad moments of reflection that this was the closest we would get to the outback on this trip.) On...

Dec 23, 2012 - Koh Jum, Phuket, Singapore and Australia

Hello from the land down under As I said in my last blog, I didn't think there would be much to write about for a while as they were going to be quiet. I was right in regards to Koh Jum and Phuket, as I didn't do a lot at all. Our first night on Koh Jum we stayed in a bungalow with no electricity. We had to shower by the light from lanterns, which wasn't too bad but I'm glad we only stayed one night. The next day we moved down the beach to a different resort, which had electricity 24 hours a day. We didn't do a lot in the time which we...

Sep 21, 2012 - Tweed Heads

Tweed Heads – would love to live here. We’ve even looked at real estate but I can’t see us moving anywhere at this stage. Everything is at your fingertips here; doctors, clubs, bus trips, everything you want, and the traffic is easier to manage here than it is in Mackay. We met up with a workmate of Barry’s from Tieri days. Fred and his wife Kath took us out for lunch on Sunday, had a wonderful time with them. Our Go-or-Stay meeting saw us stay another day. I wasn’t expecting to like Tweed Heads as much as I do. One good reason for not...

Jul 23, 2012 - Helensvale 17/7/12

We came up to the northern end of the Gold Coast so that we were closer to the theme parks. We spent a day at Movie World and a day at Sea World, and then a day getting over it!! We didn't think movie world was all it is cracked up to be. Wouldn't recommend it unless you've got a heap of kids. Sea World on the other hand was brilliant. Enough to keep two old grey nomads entertained for the day. Health issues have kept us laying low.

Jul 17, 2012 - Movin' on

After Di's bad back, my back then decided to go out in sympathy as well. (I had to succumb and buy a bowl picker upper so that I could cut down the times I bent over in half) THEN, I had to rush Di to the emergency after hours Doctor last night because of an eye infection. She thinks it was a bit better this morning, but as you can see by the photo, it isn't the best. I'm just waiting for her to pass the infection on to me. We are going to move further up the coast tomorrow for a few days. We have tickets for a couple of the Theme Parks,...

Jul 12, 2012 - Rain, Rain, Go Away

Talking to a couple this morning, they said that since they had been here, they have had only 3 weeks of fine weather at one time. the rest, it has been raining. When I asked them how long they'ed been here, they repied: SINCE JANUARY!! On the weather shows, they are talking about how in parts of Queensland, that it has been the wettest June and start to July in 30 - 60 years. No wonder everyone is pissed off. Yes we have had some nice sunny days, but you would expect a few more of them in this part of the country at this time of the year....

Jul 6, 2012 - "Bowls" Update

Horrendous conditions to play in today. Strong winds and ..... COLD! (yes Lindsay, it does seem to be cold all the time!) AND.... a heavy green to contend with. After yesterday, no small feat. Then in the third game (we didn't have to play the last end in the other two) we changed greens and what a difference. Huge draw, and I mean HUGE on the wide hand and not much on the narrow hand, but at least 5 seconds faster. Then the winds went to gale force and the big black clouds came over. Luckily, we never had to leave the green. It was only a...

Jul 5, 2012 - For the "Bowls" enthuiasts

Di and I started in the Gold Coast Carnival mixed pairs this morning at the THBC. We played on their #2 green in the first game. The first words Di said as we came off the green was "well, how the hell did we win that game?" I must admit, it wasn't easy. Neville Jenkins is a premier league player, as is his partner in the women's pennants. We went into the last end all square at 13 all. Di managed to draw one and I drew a closer one. Won the game by 2. Second game on the green that the prestige singles was played on yesterday. What an...

Jul 4, 2012 - Getting ready to play tomorrow

Still cold of a morning, but gee the days are beautiful. Household chores this morning, including a trip to Bunnings. Then off to the Tweed Heads Bowling Club (THBC) for a roll up. We were booked in at 1.00pm for 2 hours. $7.50 each, but well worth it for the experience. On the indoor carpet. Drew the TV rink as well. All the other 5 greens were full of competition bowls. Had a quick look at Kelvin Kerkow playing the Prestige Singles final as we were leaving. He was leading 17 / 7 at that stage. Then off to Southport Sharks Football Club....
