Jun 13, 2016 - Over night at Tocumwall

Tocumwal on the Murray…. We got the best site here, open the boom gate and drive straight onto it… Its one of those van parks that looks great till you start to look around, where we are is quite pleasant a bit deeper in where the permanents are entrenched it kind of looses its appeal, but we don’t have to go down that end of the park… Not a bad run up from Eureka today, Vanessa got a bit lost around Rochester but all worked out well. We stopped at Rochester for lunch and had the special, an Angus sirloin with salad & chips $15. A generous...

Dec 19, 2014 - Nearly there

After fuelling up in Forbes we headed south through a number of towns to end up on the banks of the Murray River at a small town called Tocumwal. Along the way we decided to detour through Ariah Park to Temora. Here at the airport is the warbirds museum containing a number of Australian working military aeroplanes. At different times you can be a passenger in the planes (for a price!). It is a really remarkable place. WE also passed through a number of farming towns like Narrandera, Jerilderie where Ned Kelly held up a bank, and Finley.

Mar 22, 2013 - Albury and Surrounds

What a great way to spend a summer Sunday, picnicking with friends. Especially friends who are amazing cooks, as seem to be most of the Thai women we know, yum! Followed by a swim in the Murray River, which was wonderfully refreshing in the continuing hot weather this area has been having since before Christmas. I soon discovered the current was a little strong for me however. They put The Four Year Olds blow-up ring around my non-swimmer waist and off we floated, allowing the current to take us downstream alongside the very popular Noreuil...

Apr 24, 2011 - Put your personality on

As much as the thought of the Neville Cousins Reunion Easter Bonnet Parade at 10am was exciting, we decided to hit the road just after 8:30am after we had eaten, showered and enjoyed the delights of the playground (except for Luke who got a wet bum going down the slippery dip!). We headed out of Cowra and made our first stop in Young. Early morning on Easter Sunday and Young was pretty deserted. Rob, Athena and I walked the main street and read the historical plaques - did you know that Lambing Flat (Young) was the site of an uprising...

Nov 18, 2005 - NSW: Travelling along the Upper Murray

Who knew the Murray River was so beautiful. I'd always imagined it to be either covered in twee steamboats or rotting with salt. Tocumwal is the first spot we stop at on the Murray. Right on the border of NSW and Vic and it's a good pitstop to get cool in the Murray, play some golf and chill. After spending last night on Tocumwal's river bank, we 4WD to Zanetti's Beach, a tucked away area on the Murray that we have all to ourselves. It's really magic - we set up camp under lots of big trees towering over the bank of a fork in the river and...
