Nov 6, 2016 - Meet Mr Lizard at the falls...

6th November – Mumbulla Falls It’s our last day at Tathra and so after the mandated wash of the towels we sat around for a while then went to lunch at the Tathra Bowlo. I was going to have the pork roast but fell for the rissoles. After that we drove off to find Mumbulla Falls. It was over forest roads that, though unsealed, were ok gravel roads, not another vehicle was sighted outbound, returning it was like being caught up in the Dakar rally with the drivers assuming no one would be going the other way… The falls themselves were not that...

Nov 4, 2016 - Lunch at Wheelers

Gracie went to the beach this morning, very eager to get there, chased a stick into the surf a few times then wanted to walk back, she had had enough. She was even more reticent on the boardwalk at Merimbula; she could see the water through the cracks…. Desperate for a coffee of the non instant type we drove to Merimbula and had luncheon at Wheelers. This is the kind of place where you’re greeted by the maître d' resplendent in cummerbund with tea towel folded over his arm but not for us, we went around the corner where the proletariat eat...

Nov 3, 2016 - A day out to Tilba

3rd November – Tilba….. This morning we drove along the coast road to Tilba via Bermagui… Bermagui provided a Whale watching experience but they were a distance away. Then on to Tilba for a walk around and Lunch at the Pub. Before we got to the Pub we had to sample the fudge…. I think we ended up with a kilo of it… Also left a few suggestions for flavours, Lemon lime & bitters, Grapefruit, and Quince… After Lunch we drove up to the viewing point for River Cottage http://www.lifestylefood.com.au/tv/river-cottage-australia/ But of course no...

Nov 2, 2016 - Tathra

2nd November – Tathra. A long harrowing drive today of around an hour from Eden to here… We are at Tathra Beachfront Park (we have stayed here before) but this time we are on the road side and not over near the tick infested Melaleucas. It’s been an absolutely glorious day though the sea breeze is coolish… We do need a cut lunch to get to the amenities block though but who cares we have our own… After lunch we wandered down to the Swiss Bakery which is now a Vietnamese bakery to get something naughty for afternoon tea. Then I had a brief...

Nov 9, 2014 - Last day in Tathra

Last day at Tathra today.... we didn’t do a lot, Carol got word her Dad had collapsed and was taken unconscious to hospital so we were dithering around not knowing whether to pack up and go home or not... As it transpired by late afternoon he had recovered and was chatting on the phone so we will return to Gordon tomorrow morning and stand by ready to render assistance when needed... The highlight of the day was a stress relieving double ice-cream. I'll leave you with this archival vision of the...

Nov 8, 2014 - If you thought the track to Palm Vally was bad....

A quite morning today, a home cooked pie for lunch then attempted to find Mumbulla Creek Falls ..... Let me just say this; the track into Palm Valley has nothing on the supposed road to Mumbulla Creek Falls . The pommy chick in the Navman kept sending us up dead end roads so I took a guess and went up another road that looked as if it had at least been driven on then after a few Km found a road to the right that was signposted Mumbulla Creek Falls Rd and I assumed that the falls would be on the creek. It turned into a rough 4X4 track for 9...

Nov 7, 2014 - Wonderful Tathra

In a dramatic turn of events today Carol was injured on the beach, Gracie managed to lasso her leg and Carol fell over and was dragged at least 100mm along the beach but has severe rope burns to her left leg.... Of course I did not find it that serious at first.... So we had a rather quiet day today, had a drive over to Chamberlain Lookout and I know now why the surgeon said not to walk on rocky ground but sand is ok.... I think I got away with it, just don’t tell the Physio. We drove to the Country Club for a Chinese meal but it was tres...

Nov 3, 2014 - Beautiful Tathra

So here we are at Tathra..... They have done a lot of work to this Van Park since we were last here, moved all the permanents up the far end and keep the Hoi Paloi down the southern end close to the “Water Park”. Free Wi-Fi and alternating meals on Friday nights, this Friday its Pizza, last Friday it was baked spuds with assorted toppings. You also get a “Gift Bag” on arrival with maps, chocolates and a dog treat. I guess if the weather was inclement and you didn’t have a dog you could gnaw on the treat yourself to pass some time... The...

Feb 3, 2009 - Touring

We spent today touring the Parliament buildings, Capital Hill, Mount Ainslie and around. Today was the first day of the government for the year and there were protesters on the grounds. We were being Canadian and wearing our red hats and bandannas.. Little did we know this was a sign of protest. Oops.. we then drove south to the coast. Elton let me drive. It was hairpin turn after hairpin turn...just like the Road to Hanna In Maui. We stopped at a road side lookout in the middle of the Rain Forrest. The smell was incredible...the view was a...
