Sep 9, 2009 - The Waterfall Way to Tamworth

I headed inland next for a 168k drive along a route known as the Waterfall Way which rises from sea level and finishes 740m above sea level. Now that last little fact sounds trivial and even a little nerdish but with my campervan that snippet of information means that some alertness on my part is required, because my van is incapable of ascending a long drive uphill without overheating which means I have to take the climb slowly to make the maximum distance uphill (better to be a tortoise than a hare) thus engaging the wrath of those stuck...

Jul 23, 2009 - Day 2 & 3 – Cessnock to Tamworth – “The keys are on the roof”

We got out of Cessnock early as we knew we had a long drive ahead, well at our speed going to get bread is a long trip. We packed up pretty efficiently with the help of Evan and his checklist. Got out of the van park without hitting anything, anyone or leaving anything behind….Aaron is not actually on Evans checklist! What fascinated me about leaving the Hunter valley were two particular road signs. 1) “Drinking Kills Driving Skills” and 2) “Police now targeting – Drink Driving”. There is an obvious reason that these are only seen on the...

Jan 30, 2009 - Tamworth

Today is the 30th January and I have just finished a 2 week course up in Tamworth where I learnt the skills of a Jillaroo. Whats a Jillaroo I hear you ask well, Jillaroos are female workers (as opposed to Jackaroos) that are station or large farm employees who undertake a range of activities on cattle and sheep stations. So there. Are you impressed? Well I just loved it. I was on horse back all day, every other day. As we had to give the horses a rest in between. I got to muster, drive and yard cattle and sheep. I also got to throw, brand,...

Nov 23, 2007 - Two Days in the Bush

The Tenere was sitting in the garage all ready to go. I was too after a few days of recharging in Byron Bay. I can stay there forever. The road was good all the way to Lismore a good road up the dividing range with plenty of twisties and solid Tarmak. The bike was happy - I was smiling along singing my favourite songs under the helmet. Leaving Lismore into the bush I started realizing the taste of a Solo trip. The edge of the bush was bare with vast horizons and plenty of space. So there is not much else to do but absorbe and heal to the...

Nov 11, 2007 - Jackaroo at Tamwoth

We had a 6 hour train journey from Sydney to Tamworth in New South Wales and stayed at a Best Western Hotel...a night of luxury before our Jackaroo course. We were picked up on Monday morning with 17 others to start our week at Leaconfield..and what a week it was. We had the best time ever. Lucy was the least experienced of all the riders, having never sat on a horse before. She was given 'Monday' a 27 year old horse that looked a bit tired, but he was lovely...a real gentlemen. He liked to itch his head on Lucy's leg and plodded very...

Jan 14, 2007 - From Sydney to Tamworth

We woke to a pretty bright day and packed the car. We had good intentions of getting straight out of Sydney as Mum still has her loathing of big cities. But we couldn't leave with out frog getting a look at the Harbour Bridge and the Opera house. Both Mum and I had seen the before although she had only seen them from the plane. We headed into the city and went across the bridge. I then took a turn that I hoped would get us to the spot that I wanted a photo from. It was the one with the Opera House being seen under the bridge. We got lucky...

Homeless Jobless Bum

Dec 9, 2006 - Tamworth

OK I've been a little slack and haven't written for a few days so I need to catch up. We arrived in Tamworth Fri afternoon after leaving Port Macqurie on Fri morning. It was ony about 250 kms away yet took us most of the day. This was partly due to the mountainous drive in one particular section in which we could only do about 40-50kms/hr. This particular stretch went on for about 40kms or so and was quite challenging to say the least. Partly because there were a number of vehicles going the opposite direction, including a few trucks that...

Nov 23, 2006 - Tamworth

On the 21st November Ben and Wendy had to go to a meeting in Tamworth, so we dropped Rosie and Will off with a friend in Warialda and then drove 3 hours to Tamworth, the country music capital of Australia. I only had baby Lachlan to look after, and got to do some shopping, which was good. Except for when Lachlan cried and I couldn't comfort him and had to take him to Wendy so she could feed him! People probably thought he was mine and thought I was a bad mother that couldn't comfort her own child! Hehe. Never mind though, it was a good day,...

Oct 1, 2005 - Tamworth

Pfff...

Feb 14, 2005 - Leconfield 'Jackeroo + Jilleroo School', Tamworth

CJ - Having spent a few days in Sydney, meeting up with Bexta again, then off on a 2 day surf camp which was good (but lets just say I enjoyed the surfing but am going to stick to the many other hobbies that I currently have for time being!), I then headed off into the outback to a place called Tamworth to do my Jilleroo course!! A Jilleroo for those of you that I haven't told yet or don't know is a female cowgirl, and a Jackeroo is a cowboy!! Well me being an outdoor country girl, and missing my horses etc, had heard that you could train...
