May 6, 2017 - 6th May, 2017. Currabubula s. of Tamworth

6/5/2017 Currabubula Free Camp, south of Tamworth What a wonderful day! We were both awake just before 7am, and while Ian rubbed the sleep from his eyes, I went for a walk around the park - this time with the camera. Just for me, the mist was on the hills again, and when Ian emerged, he announced that there was frost on the windscreen! And on the grass! No wonder - it was 4 degrees when we got up, but the sun had risen and the sky was blue and cloudless, and it wasn't long before the chill in the air had gone. We had breakfast then went to...

Sep 23, 2016 - Bald Rock and on to Tamworth

Headed out to Bald Rock National Park - largest granite monolith in southern hemisphere. We took the shortest but hardest path up the face of the rock - Brenton and Mum baled half way up while Keagan and Dad kept going. It was spectacular at the top with great views. The journey down was via the gentle but longer winding path through some spectacular rocks and arches. Back to Tenterfield and on to Glen Innes for lunch - a lovely Celtic town with wonderful architecture. Beautiful drive up through the hills and valleys past Armidale to...

Sep 12, 2016 - at Lake Keepit

Monday 12th Sept - at Lake Keepit Oh dear! This is our last full day at Lake Keepit. Tomorrow we move on heading south with our goal being Temora by Fri night this week. There are some vintage planes flying at the airfield next Saturday and the two Rons would like to watch. Today we started a bit of pack up and the girls did some washing and some cooking. RonG finished another book and the two Rons took some time to try to plug the leak coming from the water tank outlet. Hopefully it will hold. The gliders have been very busy today - they...

Sunday 11th Lake Keepit- and Tamworth Church Off to church at Tamworth Bible Baptist today… just a small church with about 40 or so in the congregation and everyone was very friendly. Had a light lunch in Tamworth and took a ride up to the lookout and followed with a visit to the Tourist Information Centre with the giant Golden Guitar Inside are a lot of guitars that have been donated by different singers over the years, e.g. Dolly Parton, Troy Cassa-Daley, Bushwackers, Lee Kernigan and many others. There is a wax museum of country and...

Sep 11, 2016 - at Lake Keepit - Tamworth for church

Sunday 11th Sept - at Lake Keepit - church in Tamworth Today we decided to head back into Tamworth to attend 10:00am church service at Tamworth Bible Baptist. It was a pleasant drive in. Everything is so green, it’s hard not to be impressed with the countryside. We were a tad surprised on arrival at the church this morning. Most of the men were in suits and ties. The ladies and all girls were in dresses, some even wearing hats. The pastor is a young man who took over the role after his dad (previous pastor) passed away. They were all very...

Sep 10, 2016 - at Lake Keepit - lots of gliders

Saturday 10th Sept - at Lake Keepit Last night was a bit wild as the rain moved through. Lots of flapping and banging of the awning. Ron n Hazel didn’t like it too much so they rolled theirs in (in the rain). But most of it stopped in the middle of the night and we all got good sleep. This morning has dawned sunny but lots of cloud still hanging around, so it gets quite icy when the sun hides behind a cloud. This morning the gliders have been up in serious form. There were 6 up at the same time at one stage. The little ‘tug’ plane was kept...

Sep 9, 2016 - Visiting Tamworth

Friday 9th Lake Keepit- visiting Tamworth We took the half hour drive into Tamworth which is a place we quite like. It has a wide variety of all types of shops and the main street has lovely trees on both sides. The people all seem very friendly and it is not crowded and seems to go at a slower pace than what one finds at home. Although it is quite a large place this doesn't seem to give it a very busy feel. Just started to rain lightly as we arrived back to the van at about 4.30pm and the wind was picking up. Well this led onto a wild and...

Sep 9, 2016 - at Lake Keepit

Friday 9th Sept - at Lake Keepit - Tamworth Yet another sunny start to the day, but not sure how long it will last as there is a large weather pattern moving across from SA expected to bring rain. RonG has decided to put up the other end of the annex to provide a bit more protection from any wind coming from the south west. We had morning tea then headed into Tamworth to restock the larder and frig. Tamworth main street will be a very pretty picture when the trees all break out in leaf in a couple of weeks time. It would also be great to...

Sep 8, 2016 - at Lake Keepit

Thursday 8th Sept- at Lake Keepit Tis another quiet day, but the girls have put on the washing. That should start us off with a full wardrobe again. While the girls washed, the two Rons worked on the leak that RonG has with the output pipe of the freshwater tank. Late in the afternoon we headed off again for a walk. this time we went as far as the boat ramp round near the dam wall. We walked a total of 3.7kms That was good exercise. We saw more Red Rump parrots, as well as a Rosella, and a King Parrot who was desperately trying to get us to...
