Sep 21, 2006 - Sydney

We land on schedule in Sydney, bright and early at 5:05 am. Buying some duty free alcohol and getting through customs was pretty swift, as was picking up our car from the parking lot, and we were on the way in Sydney traffic by a little after 6:00. On the road we had a small truck pull into us (no trafficators - he hadn't looked to see if there was any traffic beside him before swinging the wheel) and although we collided, I could find no dents or scratches. Then on the freeway, a Ford Falcon almost did the same thing. I even had my lights...

Jul 23, 2006 - Way of the Samurai

Port Stephens via Sydney Not much going on in Sydney at the moment, but i did go and see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - probably one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Karen O = goddess. In Port Stephens at the moment, staying in a very cool place called Samurai Beach Bungalows - it's like being back in thailand again, except colder. The beaches are beautiful around here, and deserted to (well it is the middle of winter) and today I went whale watching cos hmpback whales migrate past here twice a year. That was pretty cool too, although they didn't...

Jul 16, 2006 - One mile beach and Nelson Bay

We were so grateful to have decided to stop here. At first we were going to stop at Anna bay but we checked out One mile beach and it was so beautiful that we had to stay there! Luckily the weather was absolutely gorgeous so we chilled out for the day in the dunes overlooking the sea. We parked up in the car park right next to the beach which was ideal. That night we got a bit of an insight to the local wildlife. Firstly when it hit nightfall a very nice surfer dude came and showed us a koala up in a tree! It was well cute, a lot smaller...

Jul 15, 2006 - Newcastle like

For the Saturday we drove only a bit further up the coast so we could be in Newcastle to go out. Here we found the benefits of having a van as we could just park up in front of a club and not have to brave the walk home!! Perfect! Here we also got the luxury of cold showers on the beach. Got a few strange looks from lifeguards but we were happy to finally be clean! Had a good night out as there was a live band playing and also managed to add to our beer mat collection so Jenny is shaping up nicely! Will add pictures soon, really sorry, just...

Apr 11, 2006 - Vans, mountains and jetlag

So, after a hectic day and evening in Sydney, there was no letting up the next day. It was up early, shower and off to the rental place, in King's Cross. Not that sort of rental place, but where we would pick up our chariot for this adventure. By 10:30, Aileen had recovered from the shock of a 7 year old cheap camper van and Ben had been told to get behind the wheel... To be fair, having heard Dave B & Martin's tales of woe and their behemouth, ours wasn't too bad. If the worst thing was a fridge that stinks (and how!), then we're not doing...

Mar 31, 2006 - Newcastle, Australia

Newcastle, East Coast, Australia Friday 31st March After a walk on the beach and lunch in Manly just outside Sydney we got back in our car and drove along the highways north up the east coast, until we reached the town of Newcastle a few hours later. We really appreciated having a car as it allowed us to check out several hostels before we choose one to stay in, and allowed us to stay in some of the better areas slightly further out from the town centre, as we didn't have to walk around with our heavy bags. We found an ok, hostel in a nice...

Feb 14, 2006 - Valentines Day in Leichardt/Bye Bye Sydney 2006

FYI(There are some mixed pics on here from our fogging blue mountains and Chinese New Year.) Valentines Day was fabulous even if we did lose to the scousers - looks like a fated myself on that one:) I got to wear my amazing red dress which my family bought me for Christmas so these pics are really for you and we went to a restuarant called Trevi and thanks to our flat mates entertainment book managed to get a 3 course meal for $60 - serious bargain in one of the best restaurants in Sydney. The Bring Your Own Wine rule has got to be started...

Jan 10, 2006 - Home Again

Well, we are all home safe and sound - I dont think we need to tell any of you that we had a fantastic time. Most importantly - no accidents, no illnesses and nothing lost except my fave pillow that got left behind in the hotel at Barcelona. After nearly 3 months away and feeling fantastic I have come down with a bout of the summer flu since getting home - my body doesnt react well to not travelling 'cause I sure felt great on the road! Here are a few stats from our travels - we certainly got around! 48,000 air kilometres and 7,000 road...

Dec 30, 2005 - Sydney and New Year

Happy New Year everyone! May 2006 be a good one and be everything you want it to be. Well we had a great time in Sydney. Things were a little bit rushed trying to do what we needed to do and fit everyone in. Tim was also poorly with our old friend Mister Bronchitis so he had to take things easy for a couple of days. But am glad to report that he is back to his normal self and back on track....if his NY's drinking endeavour is any indication. The weather was good to us and we spent a lot of time at the beach and doing the usual Sydney...

Aug 17, 2005 - Just to let you know how we're getting on.....

Over this past week or so, Chris and I had three priorities: finding jobs, finding somewhere to live and getting our hair done. Hence of course we had nice new hair do's after the first day! We are still staying with friends Phil and Jade and have been to see a few places to live long term but have found only one suitable and it is not available for 5 weeks. So until then we are hunting for something temporary around the area we are currently staying in. Today I thought I would fly a few posters around to see whether anyone has a room to...

Jun 9, 2005 - Newcastle and the Hunter Valley

8 June Newcastle We did some photos for the local paper and a radio interview. In the interview Karen was in the studio and David drove another reporter round the city doing the other half of the interview. He had a great gadget which sent the audio back to the studio via his mobile. Newcastle is a great little place with beaches, bars and restaurants. Where we ate that evening was the Paymasters Café , a BYO restaurant , but it had an arrangement with a local bottle shop who delivered the wine within minutes. The food was absolutely...
