Sep 8, 2013 - South West Rocks

We travelled from Ballina to South West Rocks today. 326klms. Stopped off at the Fish Market in Ballina to buy the customary prawns which we enjoyed for dinner. At lunch time we went into a Service Area/Rest Stop on the southern side of Grafton. Alan spoke with a truck driver who works for a man from Lismore that he had dealings with in the Heggies days. We enjoyed cheese melts chatting with a couple who were familiar with SW Rocks and gave us tips about the area. We enjoyed our healthy prawn salad for dinner.

Mar 24, 2012 - Go West young man, on the rocks

After a few really nice days in Sydney we knew that we had to put some miles behind us and head towards Brisbane. We made a decision to head for a place called South West Rocks which is on the coast very roughly halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. It was so hot and the drive took in total about 4 and a half hours so both of our old hips were in Doc. We stopped at a place called Port Macquarie which was quite a big town and had an amazing beach which we stopped at and took a couple of photos before having a butty and a cup of tea in the...

Jun 13, 2011 - South West Rocks

South West Rocks – 4 June to 11 June (7 nights) The 181km drive from Forster-Tuncurry to South West Rocks was, in the most, uneventful, with most of the journey spent on the dual carriageway, Pacific Highway. However, once we reached a place called Kempsey, we turned off the Highway and on to the South West Rocks road and probably the worst stretch of so called bitumen in the world. Our GPS had indicated we continue on the Pacific Highway, but the actual road signs indicated we should take this road. I’m not exaggerating (well maybe a...

Living the Dream

Apr 23, 2009 - Finally Sunshine and Trial Bay Gaol

I woke early excited and relieved that there was blue sky with the sun smiling down with it's warm embrace. I quietly showered and dressed before taking a couple of photos in case this was a moment to be short lived. I then walked along the streets acknowledging folks getting their small businesses ready for the day's trade. I came across a cafe that overlooked the ocean and cp so enjoyed a breakfast of bacon and eggs and ofcourse my compulsary latte. When the pull of motherhood was too great to ignore I returned and found that the...

Apr 22, 2009 - Slim Dusty and More Rain!!!!

Waking up to a little rain gave us hope that today we may do a few things ....we decided to drive to Kempsey as this is the home town of Slim Dusty and Tom Kennealy. We went to the tourist information centre in Kempsy and thid kids had their first introduction to Slim Dusty and I wandered into the art exhibition. We then drove for an hour out of Kempsey town centre to Slim Dusty's childhood home. It was rather run down and the ground around the home somewhat unkempt. Liam then did time tables on the way back into Kempsey town centre where...

Jul 8, 2008 - South West Rock

Anja goes Down Under

Oct 9, 2007 - South West Rocks, Australia

Drive from Arrawara to South West Rocks...... A short drive of 87 miles, but it took us about 6 hours with all the stops. We went out on our own exploring and found some neat stuff. We took a scenic drive and then walked about a mile onlong a paved path so that we could get pictures of the coast. We found us self at the end of some road in the town of Mylestom. It was so beautiful we decided to eat lunch there in a park along the river/lagoon. People were fishing, water skiing and walking. Not many people, the town was less than 1,000...

Jul 30, 2007 - Nambucca Heads to South West Rocks to Port Macquarie New South Wales 20 to 22 July 2007

Jeff South West Rocks had been recommended to us as a nice area to visit, so here we were, twenty miles down the coast from Nambucca Heads. A big kangaroo was browsing on the short grass not far from our van so this camp site had the thumbs up from Sylvia. The main attractions of the area are walks through the nature reserves, Trial Bay Prison and Smoky Cape Lighthouse; tomorrow we will take in the sights. The temperatures drop at night time and it had been a cold night but we were snug. I am the reluctant volunteer who gets out of bed to...
