May 22, 2017 - at Pottsville

Monday 22nd - at Pottsville Another beautiful day - tempting to do nothing - but we've got to get in a Pottsville Pie before we leave here tomorrow. We've seen an Environmental park on the brochures nearby so we'd better find it before we leave. After hunting for it using Ron's "gut feel", we eventually pulled over, asked Dr Google, found it on the iPhone map and headed back the way we had gone, past Monty's home and a km up the road N of the park we found a sign. The park buildings appear to be run-down and toilets are now kept locked...

May 21, 2017 - at Pottsville - Sunday

Sun 21st May Market day in Pottsville. So off we went in the very hot sunshine to check it out. Great range of stalls and worth a look. Picked up some nice fruit and veg. then got back for a quick cuppa before heading off to a very relaxed style service at church. Made to feel very welcome. In the afternoon we went for a long walk south from the park admiring all the mansions built close to the creek - but with an easement left for walkers like us to wander for a km just for the exercise and the view. Reading yesterday's blurb again, I can...

May 20, 2017 - at Pottsville

Sat 20th May The weather has started to fine up. Clear this morning. Had a long walk up the beach north of the creek mouth. Came back to the van and undid all the good by having tea and bikkies. Decided to do a load of washing (to keep the flies away) and there is enough breeze around that it will dry. Clouded over in the afternoon but we went for a short walk and found out the time of the nearby Anglican church. News flash - Monty has gone. A photographer taking pictures of him noticed that he had about 9 ticks on him (no wonder he was...

May 19, 2017 - at Pottsville - vist Tweed Hds Sth

Fri 19th May Note that the map can't find Pottsville. Murwillumbah is 30mins drive away. Rainy day today. At least we don’t feel lonely. Ingham rain, Brisbane rain, Sydney rain, and virtually all places in between. So we did what everybody does on a wet day. We went to the shopping centre at Tweed Heads South. Did a lot of browsing, bought a new remote for the TV (hope it works), had a chinese lunch (yummy), did more browsing, bought a few groceries. Isn’t that what every enthusiastic tourist does? Spent the afternoon inside the van and Jan...

May 18, 2017 - at Pottsville - doing very little

Thu 18th May It’s a cloudy, lazy, light breeze day today and we are taking it easy. Well almost. I’ve typed up most of this blog from Day 1 to today. I met Monty today. And Jan isn’t impressed. He was sleeping on the warm bark near the men's toilet block and looked so comfortable that I didn't want to wake him. Apparently he is a long time resident. I hope they don’t throw him out when all the other permanent caravans are kicked out by Nov later this year. Went for a long walk, across the bridge, up to the mouth of the river, down the...

May 17, 2017 - to Pottsville - SE of Murwillumbah

Wed 17th May After a catchup in the morning with the owner Jan Olsen we left our lovely stay at 18 Mile and headed off towards the coast via Kyogle and Murwillumbah. We don’t remember ever driving a whole day and spending almost the entire time navigating steep, twisting, winding, narrow roads from start to finish of trip. Glad we don't suffer from car sickness. We were staggered at the amount of creek damage we saw on our way down the valley to Murwillumbah. This was caused by that huge rain event that gravitated from the cyclone in Qld...
