Feb 17, 2014 - The Blue Mountains

We set off after breakfast at the Club for The Blue Mountains, taking the back road to Springwood. Pretty soon the road started to climb and then we were into steep hairpin bends and we would have had great views but the clouds and rain thwarted us. At Springwood we joined The Great Western Highway which runs all the way through the mountains. A spectacular drive but for the weather! We left the Highway at Leura, a very pretty little town, where we stopped for a potter around the town, between rain showers. Leura is also the home of various...

Oct 1, 2010 - Jenolan Caves

Drove 70kms out of town to have a look at the Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains. We had seen a couple of signs and tourist information about these caves but didn’t really know what to expect. We drove from Bathurst to Oberon then followed the signs to the caves going down, down, down a steep, narrow, winding road until we were at the base of a massive valley. There nestled in the valley was Caves House – a grand heritage-listed hotel built in the late 1800’s to accommodate overnight visitors to the caves. It is just beautiful and you are...

Jan 6, 2007 - Blue Mountains

6th Jan - Iain enjoyed a lie in, got the car packed and finally left Sydney at Noon. After an easy drive we arrived at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains at 2.30. After getting bags in etc we headed off for a feed before walking to Echo Point to check out the view across the Blue Mountains and the Three Sisters. Took a walk over to the 'Sisters' and then found a good spot to enjoy the sunset (Paolo and Iain with cameras poised!!) which was beautiful. Walked back into katoomba, had a bite to eat and then off to bed! 7th Jan - Paolo and Fiona...

Jan 5, 2007 - Australia - Blue Mountains

It was back in ET and up north to the Blue Mountains. We decided to take the inland highway which turned out to be a very long, barren drive. By now we still hadn't seen any live kangaroos but had seen lots of road kill, some quite gruesome! We stopped off in Bathurst for lunch, Australia's oldest inland settlement from 1815 and continued towards the Blue Mountains which were looking a lot closer now. We drove through Mt Victoria - the highest point in the mountains, to Blackheath - a lovely little town in the Blue Mountains. Here we...

Dec 15, 2006 - Katoomba, Blue Mountains

Sun Dec 17, Woke this morning to beautiful sunshine and so we decided to stay another day here and explore a little more as is our wont. Firstly we walked from the caravan park, across the road and down some steps to see the Katoomba cascades and falls. The difference between yesterday and today was amazing, the whole place took on a new aura basked in sunshine. After a couple of hours of wandering around from lookout to lookout checking out these magnificent sights we called into a little cafe and bumped into the guy on SBS that does the...

John's Trip to Oz

Nov 6, 2006 - Katoomba and the Blue Mountains

Decided that since most of my Oz time was going to be spent on the coast I would go to the Blue Mountains for a couple of days just so I had been inland a bit. Train ride up there was fine until we left the station two stops before mine, where the fog suddenly decended, and by the time I got off the train I could see about 20m at most! Next day, despite the bad weather forcast, I risked going walking, starting at Wentworth Falls (the station before the fod the previous night), and walking along one of the cliffs there. The area looks...

Oct 12, 2006 - Blue Mountains and ZigZag Railway

Car Hire arranged for today, and having only arrived less that 24hrs ago we were already escaping the city, it was a hot day at forecast around 32 degrees, it was a very dry heat. We were soon heading out along the motorway to the Blue Mountains. The drive was great I think my next car might be an automatic I am quite getting used to them now. Within an hour we were climbing steady up to the top, it was also strange to see the mainline railway also along side the road for most of the way to the top! We stopped at Katoomba, which has a...

Sep 13, 2006 - Blue Mountains

Wednesday - We left Catherine Hill Bay to head farther south to go to the Blue Mountains. The town we were headed for is called Katoomba and is directly west of Sydney about 90 minutes away. Luckily, we finally had a "fine" day, as they call the weather here when it is nice! We went to Echo Point where there was a lookout point of the Blue Mountains and Jameson Valley. We saw the famous "Three Sisters". They are three rocks that are so beautiful. The story is that the sisters were turned into rocks by their father to protect them from the...

Jun 14, 2006 - Not so Sunny, but still warm CAIRNS

Hey everyone! I know it has been a while but lots has been going on in the past few weeks! I had an awesome early birthday surprise when i got back to Sydney - it was Shora pretending to be a parcel she shipped over to her 'cousin'! :) The weather in Sydney was a bit unfortunate.. lots of the fattest rain i have ever seen in my life, but Shora and i made the most of it by checking out a few musuems, and running through Darling Harbour. We did have one hot and sunny day where we did the trek from Coogee to Bondi (then promptly rewarded...
