Jan 10, 2007 - Parked in Gosford!

Hello All, Today we're writing from Gosford (which is about an hour north of Sydney). We've spent the last few days with Kay & Bard (my Godfather and his wife) being spoilt with great food, endless wine and gorgeous views out over Brisbane Waters. Kay has been doing a brilliant job of showing us around the coast (golden sandy beach after golden sandy beach) and introducing us to the local wildlife (a pelican show on the seafront and lorikeet shows on the balcony... pictures will be added). Later on this morning the four of us are off to...

Nov 19, 2006 - Port Stephens

Caught a bus from Brisbane to Port Stephens (about 3 hours)and headed for a place called Nelson Bay. The intention was to stay the night and then continue up to Port McQuarrie (another 6 hours) before going on to Surfers Paradise to meet the Torquay boys. Arriving in Nelson though, I soon changed my plan. Nelson Bay is a fantastic place. Clear blue skies, long sandy beaches and water calm enough for whale watching on the south side and crashing surf up to 3 metres high on the north. I was staying in a cabin at Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers...

Apr 8, 2006 - Day 81 Update - Beach Cresent

We were up early but not early enough to beat the traffic wardens who hit us with a $75 fine for parking!! Not impressed! We drove to Bondi beach and decided to stay on the beach all day and travel at night until we realised the cost of parking so we got all the change we had and managed to stay for 2hrs, slept for an hour on the beach and then had a full english that boosted our morale a bit. We decided to get out of Sydney and drive up the coast in an attempt to kick start our trip. We left Bondi at 12pm and drove until 10pm nearly taking...

Mar 27, 2006 - The Countdown Continues - Not Long Now!

So..... The inagural blog begins. I feel a bit of a wanker, but if everyone's blogging, then I'm not alone, right? And it'll be much easier to write to you all on the one forum, easier for you, easier for me. Ahh post-rationalisation, my old friend. Anyhoo, not long to go before I'm jetting off to sunny ol'England. Though sunny is not really the word, more like raining and miserable, but who the hell cares? Not this little chicken. Grass, greener, you know the deal. I'm fully packed and ready to go already. With Mum and Dad away (NZ) I've...

Hoges In Europe 2006

Jan 19, 2006 - Camden Heads (is)

Jun 16, 2005 - All aboard, let's go surfing

After doing much research into what to do in Australia first I settled on a 5 day surfing trip with Mojo Surfing. The company is run by three old friends Dan, Kim, and Nat who also happen to be experienced surfers. Dan picked us up in Sydney in Mojo's bright red tour bus for a 5 hour drive up North along the coast to Crescent Head camp. The camp is located outside of a small town in an unpopulated area of the beach, which allows for great crowd-free surfing. The word camp is a bit of understatement. It consists of two large 2 story wood...

May 26, 2005 - Port MacQuarie

On leaving Ayers Rock we went back to Syndey to stay for 2 more nights to relax after the hectic weekend, get up to date on the website, shop & spend the last few days with Sarah's parents before we both parted ways !! After saying our goodbyes for 2 months on Wednesday night we went back to the hostel room for an early night before getting up on Thursday at 5.30am to catch the 7am coach up to Port MacQuarie - it took a fabulous 7 hours BUT we were in a fab new coach where even Paul had some leg room, struggling to reach the chair in front...

Oct 27, 2004 - Forster

Relatively long drive today, with only a quick stop in Port Macquarie to stroll along the beach and get the kinks out of my back, which saw me rack up my first 1000k milestone in the cruise-mobile. Slightly odd YHA at Forster, which is more like a motel with a few teeny common areas tacked on as an afterthought, but on the plus side this means the bathroom is attached to the bedroom rather than a couple of corridors away. Took a stroll along the beachfront and spent a fun 1/2 hour watching kids from the local school playing touch rugby...
