Feb 9, 2015 - Blue Mountains

@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND Here’s some of what the Lonely Planet – Australia chapter Sydney & New South Wales has to say about the Blue Mountains: “In 1813 the Blue Mountains were penetrated by explorers Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth, opening the way for the colony to expand onto the vast fertile slopes and plains of the west. A region with more than its fair share of gorges, gum trees and gourmet restaurants, the spectacular Blue Mountains was an obvious contender when Unesco called for Australian nominations to the World Heritage List, and its...

Apr 18, 2014 - The Three Sisters and Katoomba

Good Friday April 18 2014 We woke early and headed off to the Blue Mountain today. We want to see the Three Sisters. The Royals were there yesterday so we are hoping it will be quiet up there today. It took us 2 hours to reach Echo Point as once again there was road works and traffic crawling up the mountains. Eventually we arrived and the view was worth the long trip. We took a walk around Echo Point, to a couple of different lookouts, but the place was packed and so we didn't stay long at any one of them. The information centre had only...

Mar 8, 2014 - Blue Mountain Day Trip

On Friday I took my first day trip with a couple people to the Blue Mountains. The day started at 730 where we got picked up in a van. Our first stop was the Sydney stadium where the 2000 Olympics were held. We didn't get to go in but the entire area was huge. The stadium during the opening ceremony held over 110,000 people. Our next stop was the best stop. We went about an hour away to a place called Lincoln's Rock. It was a lookout of the entire mountain range while standing on a cliff that looked down into a forrest. I took my classic...

Jan 7, 2014 - A week in the Blue Mountains National Park

Hi everyone, When we left you we had just seen in the New year and had a day tour of Sydney. On Thursday 2nd January we left the lovely apartment and caught a train to Katoomba in the Blue mountains national park where we had booked into a youth hostel for the week. Our plan was to place ourselves in a location where we could wake up our leg muscles before we head to Tasmania and commence our six day backpacking trek along the Overland track. We arrived at the YHA hostel in Katoomba shortly before 2pm. It was another enormous building...

Australië 2013

Mar 1, 2013 - good morning :-)

Hi everyone :-) We are having a wonderful time! Yesterday, Thursday we went on an all day tour to the Blue Mountains, the 3 Sisters Mountains, an Aboriginal show about their culture, and hiked to an overlook that was breathtaking! We road 2 of the sky lift type things, not sure what to call them. Went to Sydney's Olympic park, had a ferry ride and ate at the clubhouse. It was a very long fun day! Did I mention it's Mardi Gras here in Sydney? Look it up on line, it's supposed to be huge. It started out in 1978 as a march. People are starting...

Feb 13, 2013 - Blue mountains

This morning we did a drive by of Bondi Beach to see if it would be worth it to hang out there for the morning, but it was overcast and raining, so we headed out instead. The Blue Mountains aren't too far from sydney, and sounded like a good detour on our way to Newcastle. The weather was clearer here, so we did a hike to the Wentworth falls. There are amazing hiking trials that you can continue on from here, and we wished we would have had more time. Some of the trails were built in the early 1900s and have magnificent views and can take...

Dec 14, 2012 - The Blue Mountains

I ended up with a day of backtracking to Tamworth and eventually got the new and fairly major leaks sorted out (I hope!). Poor M'Home doesn't seem to react well to people working on her and so far has leaked like a sieve following each modification, darn it all. Scone, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Putty, the miles tick over, oh alright, the kilometres – it doesn’t have the same ring though, ha. Before I know it I’m in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney arriving at my lovely friend Christine’s place in the township of Springwood. Our recent...

Nov 12, 2012 - Blue Mountains

A slow climb from Penrith through Katoomba to Blackheath and the Blue Mtns. What’s weird is you’re essentially up on a plateau at over 1000m amidst forest and you’ve no idea of the magnificent sandstone escarpments which surround you, until you get to a lookout and are a bit blown away by the vista. It has to be some of the most spectacular scenery we’ve seen on the east coast. Unfortunately I think most of the foreign tourists only get to see the 3 Sisters at Katoomba. We nearly didn’t see it – the day we chose to go the mist came down. I...

Aug 30, 2012 - Windsor to Blue Mountains

Day 7 brings first of the big adventures, we head from Windsor to the blue mountains, 8:50 18C. Small stop on the way in Penrith to buy a box for the cruiser. The people in Penrith couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Finally we head up towards the mountains. As we climb the temperature drops 1C at a time, Not far from the main attractions we take a scenic drive and I spot a lyra bird jst on the side of the road - truly special, its going to be a great day. We arrive at what we beleive to be the first of a lookout point, confused as to...

Oct 3, 2011 - Skyways, railways & cable cars!!!!

Today is our last day in Sydney before we begin our road trip up to Brisbane and back. We decided to go to scenic world in the blue mountains which is about 2hrs inland from Sydney. We woke up a little late again, really battling with getting up early and hearing my alarm. We begun our journey having to catch the train to central only to then find out that our train is not running today due to track maintenance,so we had to catch a bus from central to Penrith (which wasn't to bad),then catch a train from Penrith to Katoomba. The scenery on...

Apr 18, 2011 - Jet Star Bus

We left at 7:20 am to get our luxury carriage to the BLue Mountains. Driver was 10 minutes late and the bus was not even comfortable no reclining seats or extra leg room as advertised. Libby is our driver. We stopped at the Featherdale Wildlife Park. It was a nice area and great for kids. It was originally started as an animal rescue shelter (it's located in the middle of a residential area). We did get to see Little Penquins, some birds, different species of kangaroos, an albino wallaroo,Bilby and snakes, things we had not seen. There were...
