Nov 26, 2005 - NSW: Country Races at Adaminaby & Stu gets blokey South Coast

Waking up on the moonscape at Lake Eucumbene is brutal - the flies are out, the sun is up and heads are very, very sore. Dubes is supposed to be driving to Canberra and back to pick up his mate, Boris, and we're then going to head to the Eucumbene River, but a judgement call is made. It's been a long tour of duty since we met six days prior and by the time we get to Adaminaby we decide to throw in the towel. Dubes wants to get home to his girls and we want to give our livers a holiday. We end up at the Adaminaby Races (an obvious choice...

Nixes On Tour

Apr 3, 2005 - Ulladulla and Canberra

As we head round to Sydney we cross the border from Victoria into New South Wales. It's easy driving along the Princes Highway which we've followed most of the way from Adelaide. Similar to Lakes Entrance, Ulladulla is a seaside town with a fishing fleet. Out of season it's fairly quiet with nothing much to draw the attention but there are good beaches nearby so we make the most of more good weather and have a lazy Sunday at a beach near Huskisson. We also spend a day in Canberra. Australia's capital is closer to Ulladulla than anywhere...

May 1, 2004 - The Shoalhaven District, NSW

After picking up the car we bought a second-hand book entitled 'Australia by 4-Wheel Drive' and it contains some excellent self-drive tours. We chose our first tour around the Morton and Budderoo National Parks and the Kangaroo Valley. This we found to be hilarious! I mean most roads in these parks are off-road by us British standards anyway, but the Aussie 'off-road' means a whole different thing! These tours take you to places that the average backpacker can't get to or residents with normal 2wd cars for that matter, and that means no...

Wedding bliss

Apr 7, 2004 - Ulladulla-Narrawallee

I catch a lunchtime flight from Melbourne to Sydney, then the coach down to Ulladulla. I arrive around 8pm and am met by David (Adamson) and Marion. Their house in Narrawallee was designed by Dana and has two abutting octagons as the floor plan.

Mar 6, 2004 - Bateman's Bay

We drove with Denis' Uncle David to Bateman's Bay via Kangaroo Valley. The weather wasn't too good but we did manage to see a kangaroo and a wombat. Both were a little motionless though, i.e. road kill. As part of the great pie trail we stopped off at "The Best Pies in the World" Pie Shop in Kangaroo Valley for a damned fine pie. Sarah & David had traditional Aussie; Denis had chilli-con-carne (yes in a pie). After a couple more hours we arrived at Bateman's Bay at Denis' cousin Alex and Great Aunt Florence. Unfortunately the weather was...
