Aug 31, 2019 - Last day in Lennox

the flame trees are flaming at present and look magnificent. The large trees are out on the highway and I wasn't able to stop to take photos so this small tree had to do. This morning we went to watch Finn play in the final of soccer, his team put up a good fight but didn't win. They had a get together this afternoon for the end of season. After the soccer game we all went for a game of tenpin bowling.. Nana won, and enjoyed the reminiscing of when she played league bowling quite a few years ago. We all had fun though. Seeing as Finn...

Aug 28, 2019 - Killen Falls

Today we went to the Emigrant Creek Dam and Killen Falls. A lovely walk in the Bush listening to the native birds. We spotted a pair of Black cockatoos and a couple of Brush Turkeys. The size of the Turkey nest mounds is amazing - they just keep on scratching up the surrounding leaves etc. The elkhorn and birds nest ferns were big and lots of them. It was a steepish rough track down to the falls, but well worth it. Along with fish jumping out of the water we spotted these turtles resting on the log....

Aug 27, 2019 - Out with it!!

Well the tooth had to come out- it had a crack up in the gum and was so damaged the only option was to remove it. So yesterday was spent quietly with a few pain killers. I have to say that the dentist I had was the most gentle dentist I have ever come across and very caring. We went to the fish co-op to get some fresh fish for dinner and I decided to treat us to some prawns for lunch. For our UK readers this photo is of Medium sized King Prawns (not like the scrawny little things they call King Prawns in your country!!!!!) They were very...

Aug 25, 2019 - More Soccer

Malia's Soccer team were 4th on the ladder and today was the semi finals. Unfortunately they lost the game but it was well played. A warm 24 deg and a trip to Kyogle for the game. After lunch we went for a walk on the lovely Lennox beach. Finn spotted this odd looking piece of sea something as we walked along. There must have been plenty of bait fish in the shallows as the gulls were dive bombing for ages. We sat down for a while and Finn did some digging - making a face with holes in the sand.

Aug 24, 2019 - Another surprise

The beautiful rainbow lorikeets were outside our room this morning. A lovely sunny day of 23 deg. We made our way to Lennox Head - road works for most of the way as they are building the new highway from just north of Coffs Harbour to Ballina, so a slowish trip. The breeze had come up and the paragliders were having a wonderful time floating above the lookout at Lennox Head. WE arrived in time to see the second half of Finn's soccer match where he was awarded Best & Fairest player of the day. Of course the grandkids hadn't been told of...

Dec 25, 2018 - A beautiful day

The view from the Headland is always spectacular, but this morning it was even more so. The kids had been up since 6am and were very excited. Lunch was eaten early as Michelle had an afternoon shift at the hospital and had to leave before 12.30, but the prawns were delicious as were the turkey and ham. The Christmas puddings tasted good too even though I only made them a few days ago. Graham has a hive of native bees, and suddenly this afternoon they were invaded by another hive. We had just happened to give Graham a book on the native...

Dec 24, 2018 - Merry Christmas to everyone

We went for a walk along the beach this morning, after queueing at the Fish Co-op for half an hour to purchase prawns . The humidity has dropped thank goodness. There were quite a few bluebottles washed up on the shore. Then after lunch we went visiting where Finn had a bit of luck with a fishing rod, catching a bream big enough for he and Malia to have for dinner tonight. After dinner we drove around to a nearby village to see the houses looking very pretty with their lights. Then Finn sorted out a carrot for Rudolf and a glass of...

Dec 23, 2018 - A bit less humid

Today was somewhat cooler and much less humid. So while Grandad and Malia went Christmas shopping the rest of us went for a walk to the local billabong and Finn tried fishing with his "primitive" rod. He went through all the worms he had in his bait box - something was munching on them and having a lovely feed! Ruby the dog had a lovely time too swimming. On the way back we spotted this very big grasshopper. Grandad had promised to take Finn fishing this afternoon, so Finn decided he wanted to go back to the billabong in the hope of...

After some shopping this morning to gather all the ingredients for the Christmas pudding, the kids came to the motel and we spent a very relaxing afternoon by the pool....

May 7, 2018 - Sprouts

We went to see Graham's new business venture in operation today He is growing organic sunflower sprouts. His plot is on an organic farm in the nearby hills. This is the biggest bag of potting mix I've ever seen! It's an interesting process and it takes 6 to 8 days from start to finish. The sprouts are packaged in 2 sizes and the local shops are taking them as well as a couple of wholesale fruit and veg suppliers. Finn was hoping to take Grandad fishing after school today but we had a rainy afternoon so hopefully tomorrow will...

May 5, 2018 - But wait ........there's more!

After departing Port Stephens we had a long day's drive to Lennox Head. We stopped at Ulmarra on the beautiful Clarence River to catch up with Paul and Kath on Moor R & R - a very short half hour stop as we still had a couple of hours driving to do. Then it was on to see our son and family. Grandad and Malia played chess. Finn played his first ever game of soccer. Then we did a trip up to the northern outskirts of Brisbane to catch up with Tim and Amanda, and their lovely daughters, Ashleigh and Carrie. This is the view from...

Dec 15, 2017 - Heading to the Coast

Lovely weather as we headed down through Warwick to Stanthorpe where we did some shopping and had lunch. What a busy, progressive town. Headed south for a quick photo stop at Wallangara on the border. This is the town where the trains had to swap. One side of the railway station is the NSW side and the other was the Qld side. No longer in use but well restored. Headed through Tenterfield before turning to Casino along 100 kms of winding and twisting roads - nice view but heavy going. Casino is a large town of about 10000 people before the...
