It was time for another day to stay put, and the Dunbar House in Murphys was the perfect spot. Murphys is known as the "Queen of the Sierra," and after the most incredible breakfast of the trip, I spent the morning wandering the town. It was a glorious Fall day, with blue skies and crisp, cool air. I enjoyed taking the time to stroll into each shop and explore the unique merchandise, particularly at the cowboy shop. It was a great place to pick up a few gifts. I also made an appointment at a day spa for an afternoon of indulgence. Ahhh... The spa turned out to be an excellent idea.

I walked back to the inn, intending to catch up on this journal and continue my research into which southern route I would like to drive. By the time I arrived at the inn, the weather had turned cool and damp. The innkeeper greeted me and informed me that the inn's owner was preparing spiced hot chocolate. She invited me to join them for cookies and a cup of chocolate in front of a roaring fire in the living room. It turned into one of the more delightful afternoons of the trip. I described my trip, and the owner told me about the inn and why she and her husband had decided to offer it for sale. We discussed the choices we make in life, and I loved listening to her philosophy of life. Neither one of us wanted to go back to work. I'm slowly learning that taking a little downtime on this trip to relax and reflect is just as important as charging forward. After much hesitation, I finally headed upstairs to "work."

The staff members at the inn were so friendly and warm, and they took very good care of me during my entire stay. I would love to come back someday.
