Day 26 - Thu 6th Feb
The wind spoilt the night, it kept blasting us with gusts that shook the motorhome & rattled the rooflights every so often which disturbed our sleep. It was still blowing strongly in the morning so we were right to move on from the Caminito Del Rey as it was certain to be closed again today with this wind.
We took some washing down to a nearby Washeteria that I found last night. Nice modern washers & dryers & I got to watch the drum going round while Viv popped off to a nearby supermarket. I even managed to transfer the washing to one of the dryers all on my own, must be a first.
We decided to carry on East along the mountain road rather than go back to the coast. Very scenic with all the mountains. Turned out to be a motorway nearly all the way as we headed East past Grenada. Another place we had been to before so we stayed on the bypass with the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada glinting in the sunlight as a back drop.
We stopped for the night at a small town called Velez Rubio where we eventually got to an Aire with the help of a policeman in a car who led us out of the steep narrow streets in the old part of the town. Our SatNag was having another laugh at our expense. Turned our to be a very nice Aire not far from the centre of town so after we’d settled in we took a walk into town. It seemed deserted but we found out that all the shops close from 2pm & open again at 5pm, weird!
I got the chance to sit in the sunshine for an hour or so before dinner & also took the opportunity to give the motorhome a bit of a wash, at least the bits I could reach. We also took the opportunity to use our little onboard shower again. We’re getting used to the rather cramped little washroom but all things are possible & it does the job. We don’t like to overuse the onboard water so after wetting ourselves we then use the soap or shower gel before washing it off with a final spray. At least the water is lovely & hot thanks to the heater.
