Scents of Christmas

December 25

Merry Christmas - Christmas Day we still have the opportunity to partake of activities on the ship. Martha and I headed to the lounge for the 30 minute core strengthening class with Teo. Then it was breakfast with Vicki and time to catch the bus for our Vienna city tour. We did a drive by of the highlights of Vienna - the Museum Square, Vienna Opera House, Parliament, and the ring road. Leaving the bus for a walking tour, we walked by St. Stephens Cathedral, through Stephensplatz (they were setting up for a big New Year’s Eve Party), down Kartnerstrasse (being Christmas Day all of the shops were closed), through Hofburg Palace, through Hero’s Square and into Maria Theresa Square where a large Christmas Market was just opening. Having approximately an hour to shop we wandered around, had a glass of Gluhwein and then caught the bus back to the ship. The afternoon tour was to the Christmas Market at Schronbrunn Palace and the three of us opted to stay on board, we had seen enough Christmas Markets! After dinner there was a Christmas sing-a-Long with the crew accompanied by the versatility on-board pianist. Then Santa arrived on an electric scooter and delighted the two children still up as well as the young at heart adults. Every person received a gift, except those that retired early (I.e. Vicki and Martha).
