After a jet-lagged, lack-of-sleep night, Judi and I started the morning with cups of Nespresso! Refreshed by the coffee and a delicious breakfast at Amadeus Hotel, we were ready for our day of explorations.. Before heading to The Hofburg Palace, we stopped at St. Stephen’s Cathedral....think Westminster Abbey!. Alas, no time that day for a tour. Had a brief walk around the interior and then headed to the palace to view the Morning Exercises of the Lipizzaner horses. Those horses have a training session inside a special indoor arena, it looks like a small track with decorated walls and ceiling with classical music playing. Tourists watching this training were very quiet and respectful of the horses and trainers..........Our next activity was to tour the Opera House. We walked over to it passing lots of streets (looking more like little alleys) with festive lights and Christmas markets to view.
But...being hungry....we had a lunch of weinersnitzle and potatoes with a unique appetizer of goat cheese. Very tasty!
The Opera House...a must see if one goes to Vienna. Amazing history, art, and architecture...
Earlier that morning a ‘peddler’ outside the Opera House convinced us to buy tickets at a different venue for that evening. It was a 7 piece chamber music ensemble with 2 tenors, 2 sopranos, and a ballerina featuring Mozart, Bach, Puccini , and Vivaldi...a delightful experience...a lovely way to end our day. Walking back to the hotel, Judi and I were hoping for a night of deep sleep...vm
