Urquhart Castle ruins

Inverness ‘castle’

Ness River, Inverness.

Day 24. Friday. 6/9/2019. Inverness.

Our day started with a cruise on Loch Ness. It was absolutely freezing as we waiting on the small wharf for the catamaran to appear on the choppy water. I sat up top with the wind cutting through me - not risking sitting in the closed area with the food smells! I’d rather the freeze than the alternative!! Sitting on my own, I was soon surrounded by ancient - well, maybe just very old, French ladies, who were so sweet. We did a lot of smiling at each other, which was a distraction for me. Ian came up soon before we reached Urquhart Castle, which was our destination. We disembarked and joined the hoards of visitors to the castle ruins, wandered around for a short time then went up to the Visitor Centre where we had coffee and cake, then saw a short film on the history of the castle from around 500 to 1300’s. It seems to me that the Scottish have had a hard time from the English over the years!! We were back at our hotel in time for an afternoon of leisure, which meant most went up to the town and had some retail therapy or checked out some of the churches or the Inverness Castle, which isn’t actually a castle, but the Town Council building and is opposite our hotel on the Ness River. It was nice to have a free afternoon.

And no, we didn’t see the Loch Ness Monster........
