Bridge linking Zimbabwe (Vic Falls) and Zambia

Walking with the lions

. Day 13. Monday. 26/8/19. Elephant Camp, Victoria Falls.

5.30 wake up call for coffee at 6am and depart at 6.15am for our Victoria Falls tour. John our guide, is so good at getting us up and going early to beat the crowds, and again, it was perfect timing arriving at the falls at 6.45 - cool, no crowds as we walked to the far end of the falls and back to Livingstone’s statue, taking photos, walking through the mist from the falls - some of the way was as dry as a bone, then where the mist was all around, it was like walking through a rain forest. Baboons and monkeys on paths and up trees, and finally other tourists. So pleased we did it early - made the 4+k easier to walk before it got too hot. Glad we didn’t know the walk was going to be that long! Breakfast was very welcome when we returned to the camp. Only had an hour before we were picked up for our helicopter ride over Victoria Falls, which was very good. So different seeing the falls and all the water above from the air. Back to camp for lunch, another hour or so then time to the Lion Sanctuary to Walk with the Lions. What an amazing experience! 2 six month old cubs were bought out and we were able to pat them and then we were taken to 2 two year old siblings, brother and sister, and again able to pat them, then walk with them. Everything was very secure and well organised - we had to sign an indemnity before we could do the walk. Home, dinner - pizzas by request - then drinks and chat by the fire. Another fabulous day.

It was such a busy day, but we chose to do everything on offer, as amazing as it all is, we won’t be back. Some people had a nice quiet day at the camp. Maybe we’ll have one of those at our next stop - depends what’s on offer.
