Viewing the area that we fished on Friday

There is a trail there

We continued to have heavy winds throughout Saturday, Saturday night, continuing into Sunday. All charters were cancelled yesterday and I assume the same for today (Sunday). Seas of 5’ or more. Not good for fishing!! We hunkered down for most of Saturday. Will play it by ear today. Hoping to do some hiking. Sunday night we had dinner at Fu Kung Chinese restaurant with our “Klutina friends”, Kathy, Randy, Karen and Dave. It was Dave and Karens’ anniversary and despite our collective objections, Dave managed to get all the checks! He did allow the four of us to get the tip. Thanks Dave and Karen!

Monday

We did a 6 mile hike out the Shoup Bay Trail. I can’t tell you what the gain is as the trail rises and falls along the base of the Chugach Mountains lying on the north side of Port Valdez bay. There are some great views along the Trail. The Trail becomes barely discernible and we were almost bushwhacking for much of it. A good hike.

People are asking, so maybe I haven’t said much about it? How about life in the cracker box on wheels? It has gone quite well. Yes, it is small, we bump into each other and we do miss a few things that we have in our “home” but, overall, it has been a great experience. We have enjoyed the simplicity of no slides and being able to hook up quickly and easily. And (knock on wood) we have had few problems. I have been able to address those that we have had pretty quickly and easily. In short, we have discovered what our good friends, Tom and Nancy, did several years ago when they traded their 5th wheel for an Airstream tag-a-long. The solar has worked out very well. We have only used our Honda generator less than a half dozen times. We have small tanks but have learned to deal with that. We have done a fair amount of dry camping and boondocking which we have thoroughly enjoyed. One of the reasons that we wanted a small rig like this was to be able to get into “out of the way” places – and, we have! We are definitely short on power at times (the haul out of Valdez will be a long and slow one) but it has worked. Maybe we need one of those new Jeep Gladiators with the diesel engine!?!?!? LIFE IS GOOD.
