Day 22 - Wednesday 5 June - Treviso

We were dressed and ready to farewell A&J as they headed for Triest at 0930 hrs.

Today was planned as a rest day, however, we continued to walk areas of the town centre we had not visited yesterday. As a result, we believe we have found a nice well hidden restaurant for dinner tonight. A further purpose of the morning walk was to purchase a European area pre paid phone card; A&J’s tale of a blown car tyre in a remote locality and many phone calls for assistance a sobering experience. At what I think is a reasonable cost of 25€, we have 500 hours of calls in Italy or 250 hours in Europe and back home plus 20GB of data for a month.

We also visited the supermarket again for laundry supplies to bleach a wine stain from Kaye’s white slacks. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy the Cointreau I saw yesterday.

We were back in our apartment before lunch for a rest with no interest for either breakfast or lunch.

While Kaye continued to rest, I set off to walk to the westerly limits of the old town back and through the centre. We had not viewed the Chiesa Di San Nicolo a towering red brick structure nearly as imposing as the Cathedral in Albi, southern France. It had a prominent wooden barrel vaulted ceiling and many fresco’s and paintings. It’s Altar and the Tower are currently under extensive renovation. I also noted many large private residents along the western wall with quite a few closed and deteriorating and others overgrown; it appeared such large properties are not in demand.

I returned to the apartment via a glaceria around 1500hrs to rest until dinner.

Our rest included a Netflix episode of “What/if” before we left for dinner at 1830hrs. The restaurant we had chosen offered the lesson that while a restaurant may open at 1800hrs, it is not until 1730hrs that dinner service is offered; all explained in a nice way. We had several drinks at the bar before we ordered, I had rabbit and Kaye had a fish ravioli which we both enjoyed with nice wines. A very pleasant evening before retiring via Dasie’s, gelateri to bed at 2100hrs. Tomorrow we drive to Padua and then visit Villa Pisani on our return to Treviso
