This is our free week for staying at Fortuna De Oro for 3 months. We were in site 1118 which is a group of sites in the back of the park for 'transient' RVs. It is a very clean and pretty park, but has mostly park models. It has all the amenities, but isn't as 'cozy' as we found the park in Yuma. Being on the outskirts of Phoenix, there was much more traffic, too. We had everything we needed within a 5 mile radius. It was just fine.
One difference here is that the desert is a bit further away! You have a drive to get to the desert before starting the desert ride! Not a big problem. On Wednesday we took a drive out that took us by Lake Pleasant and Castle Hot Springs, a recently restored historic resort in Arizona that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located within the Hieroglyphic Mountains. We enjoyed the ride, but the road was not a true desert road like we have become accustomed to driving. The next day we took a desert drive that is listed in the Arizona Trails book. That was a real desert drive. Unfortunately, with my complete lack of map reading skills, we didn't take the trail we were wanting, but it turned out to be a great desert ride after all.
On Friday we drove to Fort McDowell Casino, Fort McDowell, AZ. It is an hour drive, but so worth it. Tim got into a poker tournament and I played my penny slots. He didn't money in the tournament, but made his money back playing video roulette. I spent 3-1/2 hours on the slots and walked away only $10 low. I consider that a very successful trip!! Our great neighbors, Mike and Robin, do very well at that casino. They had just recently sold their home and are full timers. We wish them well and hope to see them on the road!! Enjoy your travels, Mike and Robin!!
