Left Bristol early on Oct 11. Good flight and some 15 hours later arrived at the hotel, tired. For those who did not know we were going on this trip Jen & I are being accompanied by Richard & Gemma.
Local time on arrival was 5.30 pm, five hours behind UK. We unpacked ASAP and found the lobby bar to freshen up before eating, dispensing as many Hola’s as possible along the way.
This resort fully deserves its Luxury title, the buildings, rooms, restaurants and gardens are really fantastic, as are most of the staff. We retired to bed as late as possible to try to get into the time zone here.
At the welcome meeting Rich & Gemma book up for the boat trip to the paradise island, which they thoroughly enjoyed, making some new friends on the trip. Jen & I book up the ‘oldies’ preferred cultural/historic trip to the capital Santa Domingo. The rest break was interesting as we saw a security guard twisting what looked like a sawn off shotgun around his finger with gay abandon! Also, whilst on the main dual carriageway we witnessed a van travelling the wrong way, followed by two bikers, and with an outstretched leg pushing his mate along (presumably its a dead battery), only to see that bike come back down our side the wrong way at breakneck speed and shortly after back the right way perched horizontally on top of the bike looking like superman !!!
Have dined at several of the A La Carte restaurants (Gourmet, Italian, Steak, Mediterranean) which have all Ben good but the presented plates do not look like the menu descriptions hardly at all. The buffets have in fact failed to satisfy hardly at all, so we seem to have reverted to them for the remainder of our trip. The Brazilian and Asian have not been visited.
