Stateside Road Trip travel blog

In the morning

View of Capulin volcano from the visitor center

Later

Just before the thunderstorms

Fog. Poor visibility. Could be anywhere. A couple hundred miles of not much with gas stops for a break.

The radio is interrupted with emergency messages. Heavy thunderstorms in Oklahoma counties I don't recognize. Golf ball sized hail. Flashfloods. Stay indoors.

Seems fine in Elk City. I press on.

Hit I-40 eastbound. Major thunderstorms. Heavy, heavy rain pounding me. Visibity down to 100 feet at times. Most folks slow down to 45. Trucks pass me doing 60. Lets up about 40 miles from Oklahoma City.

Glad to be off the road. Not camping weather.
