David drove up from the NYC area to spend a few days with us... seems as though the weather was cooperative as we were able to go and see the Hudson River sights in the area. One one day we went to:

The Vanderbuilt mansion, pretty opulent but also a little bit sterile. This was the home of Frederick, grandson of Corneleus. It was sold to the US government for $1 during the depression as Fred's widow was unable to keep up with taxes and maintenance on the place. All personal effects have been removed so their wasn't really much to see other than the marble and sandstone, lol.

FDR's home in Hyde Park, actually it was FDR's mother's home and she made sure that everyone knew it. Eleanor never felt welcome there. Consequently, she built her own place nearby.

Val Kill... very interesting stuff here. She was really an interesting person.
