We spent a night at the iconic Daly Waters Pub, lots of underwear and business cards and foreign currency hanging everywhere. Lets just say the accommodation, a pub room with shared bathroom was an experience! There are two huge pools and a spa at the complex. We sat in the spa and shared horror renovation stories with our fellow travelers. It seems Sydney tradies are no worse than other states'. There was entertainment with a country and western singer of an evening and what sounded like staff karaoke well into the night. But the night sky was amazing, so many bright stars.

At Mataranka we stayed at the Homestead which is only a 200 metre walk to the thermal pools which are in Elsey National Park and a very popular place for a soak.

We also visited Bitter Springs, a tropical spring-fed and mineral-rich thermal pool nearby.

Mataranka is known as the ‘Capital or the Never Never’. This area was home to Jeanie Gunn who wrote the book ‘We of the Never Never’. We were in for a treat the night we stayed as the entertainment was Nathan 'Whippy' Griggs, the world record holder for most cracks per minute, a whopping 531! He was very funny, entertaining and not bad looking.
