Welcome to Rajasthan INDIA travel blog

I always wanted to tour Rajasthan, and see the Thar Desert. I started my trip from Ahmedabad and toured the desert city of Jaisalmer, which is the best place to go if you want to see the Thar Desert in all its beauty. I had booked a Jaisalmer Tour Package from Chetram Voyages. In this blog, I will describe my trip to Jaisalmer.

Reaching Jaisalmer

I boarded the Bandra Terminus Jaisalmer Express (22931), which halts at Ahmedabad. It departed at 10.30 pm and reached Jaisalmer at 12.50 pm the next day.

Where I stayed

In Jaisalmer, I stayed at Fort Rajwada. The hotel was pre-booked by Chetram Voyages, as part of their tour package. The hotel was a top-class luxury hotel and its room had ethnic Rajasthani décor. The hotel had every facility and their staff was most cordial and polite. I enjoyed being in the Rajputana Desert Camp for a 1-night stay. The desert camp is in the middle of the sand dunes and the tents in the camp had the necessary amenities.

Jaisalmer Attractions

In Jaisalmer, I visited its top attraction, the Jaisalmer Fort. I was stunned by its enormous size. There are colossal gates inside the fort, and temples and havelis, where people still live. I visited Patwon ki Haveli, Nathmal ki Haveli and Salim Singh ki Haveli, which reminded me of the rich history of Jaisalmer. Bada Bagh impressed me with its spectacular architecture. Boating in Gadisar Lake was a scenic experience. I also visited the incredibly beautiful Vyas Chhatri.

Sam Sand Dunes

Visiting Sam Sand Dunes near Jaisalmer was a thrilling experience. I took the camel and jeep ride. The jeep ride particularly was a thriller, where the driver drove the jeep on the slopes of the sand dunes at a great speed. I walked on the sands and had fun tumbling down the slopes of the dunes. The dunes were so picturesque that I sat for some time watching the landscape. In the evening, I watched a traditional Rajasthani folk dance and a sumptuous dinner.

I surprisingly found many restaurants in my trip to Jaisalmer. I went to Suryagadh Restaurant in the luxurious Suryagarh Hotel. The food had many options from Indian and Asian cuisine. The ambience and décor were simply outstanding. I had a beautiful view from the rooftop of the Killa Corner, which is just besides the Jaisalmer Fort. Their traditional Rajasthani food was mouth-watering. But my favorite restaurant in Jaisalmer was The Trio. The curries were simply unbelievable and folk musicians were playing in the background.

What I enjoyed the most

The entire tour of Jaisalmer was a fabulous experience. Chetram Voyages had excellent cabs and drivers. I had the best experience of my trip in Sam Sand Dunes, where I enjoyed the Jeep Safari. And a visit to Tanot Mata temple and Longewala War Museum was a memorable one. I saw actual battle tanks and weapons used in the 1971 war with Pakistan.
