Monday 2 July

Set off around 5:30am. Not much wind so needed to motor the whole way.

We wanted to go into Chioggia but it looked like all the marinas / sailing clubs were full. So we went and explored the channels and first of all attached ourselves onto a pile marking the channel. We later went a anchored just inside the channel and had a relatively peaceful night.

Tuesday 3 July

Left the anchorage and proceeded through some to the channels of the lagoon of Venice. It was tops! One of the islands was so picturesque with it unique architecture and colourful buildings.

Settled into the marina on Certosa which will be our home for the next month.

Wednesday 4 July

Woke up to a nice surprise. Around 5am I heard a strange sound like something falling on the deck – something quite heavy. When I got up in the morning the bottle of (soured) milk had exploded – we had cottage cheese all over the galley and splashes into the saloon. Needless to say most of the morning was spent removing cheese from all surfaces – I was planning on cleaning today but not necessarily getting rid of cheese!

Mid morning headed off to Lido to get a frequent users travel card – basically it costs 50 euro to set up (valid for 5 years) and you get travel tickets at residents prices (1.50 euro per ride as opposed to 7.50 ticket which is valid for an hour; or a seven day travel card which costs 60 euro).

Basically the plan over the next few weeks is to spend the mornings completing chores and maintenance and then mid afternoon take a vaporetto into Venice or surrounding areas and do some site-seeing. We’re in no particular rush.
