Grizzly Bear in Chilkoot River Area

At Summit of Mt Riley

High speed ferry to Haines

Hammer Museum

Fort Seward

Left Juneau this morning on the ferry to Haines, AK. Took the fast ferry and it only took two hours to arrive here. We are now officially on the mainland of Alaska. This is a very quaint and sleepy little town. It is known for its huge population of bald Eagles as well as totem poles. Lots of grizzlies are known to live in the area. We took a great hike and explored the town, including the old downtown area, the boat harbor and the now defunct Fort Seward. Oh yeah, they have a hammer museum with over 2,000 hammers and the largest hammer in the world. Frankly, its a little more than we both ever thought we needed to know about these remarkable implements. To each his or her own, right?!?!

We did an awesome hike to Mt. Riley. The view from the summit was absolutely incredible. Mountains, a glacier, and water on all sides. Probably the best viewpoint of the trip so far!
