We are making our way back towards Hakodate in order to return the rental car. So far have driven about three quarters around Hokkaido in a kind of counter-clockwise direction. The drive to Furano was thru winding mountain valleys and passes, often over high bridges or thru long tunnels. Except for the tunnels the scenery was beautiful, and there was very little road traffic which makes for a relaxing drive.
On our way into town we stopped and visited the Tomita Farm Gardens. There they grow many different types of flowers planted in large areas of long rows following the contours of the land. The different flowers in bloom clad the countryside in undulating patterns of color. Not everything was in bloom during our visit, but enough so to behold the beauty of the site.
The Lavender ice cream really did NOT taste like potpourri on a cone ! The delicious Hokkaido cream was just slightly nuanced by soft fragrant flavor, akin to a mild vanilla.
Basically the supple, smooth rich texture of Hokkaido cream makes just about any flavor a treat to eat. Though I do have to admit we, any of us, did NOT order the asparagus ice cream !
On our drive to Sapporo saw the statue & five level pagoda across a river as we made a turn in the road; had to stop a take a picture.
Ciao for now
