The Sorbonne

Charlemagne in front of Notre Dame

Inline skaters entertain the crowd

The day started slowly as the streets were relatively quiet of people. The Sunday morning silence broken only by the garbage truck completing its daily run and the street cleaners spraying the footpath and sweeping the road. Breakfast of coffee was the best on offer as we had over eaten yesterday.

Damian rang mid morning and we arranged to meet in the Latin Quarter around 1300hrs.

Our walking path took us across the smaller of the two islands, the lle Saint Louis up Boulevard Saint Germain to Maubert Mutualite and then to the Pantheon. Damian rang as we were about to enter to meet at the front of Saint Severin. Our walk to the cafe they had chosen took us across the front of the impressively large building of the Sorbonne.

We had a salad lunch before strolling to a nearby park for Josh to run around. It was quite a relaxed afternoon amongst the crowd as we all continued to stroll, across the lle de la Cite, around Notre Dame and across the Bridge of the Archbishopric. We noted that this bridge where Kellie & Brad had placed their eternity padlock has now been remodelled to prevent the locks being attached. We found a nearby cafe where we had drinks and chatted until 1630hrs when we departed company. Damian was leaving very early next morning to be back in London for work, Reinette, Pippy ( another name variation) and Josh are to leave later in the day.

On our return leg, we were entertained on the Pont Saint Louis with inline skaters demonstrating their skills much to the interest of the onlooking crowd. We were not planning to have dinner but Kaye was drawn to a Patisserie in Rue St Louis en lle and purchased what turned out to be the freshest and nicest baguette of all time.

Having nibbled on the end of the baguette on the way home, dinner of left overs was on the cards and in doing so we continued our down hill dining spiral of even more carbs.

It was an early night to bed.
