First church

Santa Maria della Salute

Megan & Kelli

Rialto bridge

We caught the ferry to Venice early this morning and arrived in Venice by 11:00. It took awhile to figure out the best way to get to the hotel with our very heavy bags but we finally caught a water bus and checked into the hotel. Megan’s college roommate, Kelli, lives an hour north of Venice and was coming to meet us. We jumped on the water bus and headed down the canal to check out a church that looked interesting while we waited for Kelli to get there. Unfortunately, most of the churches close from noon to 3 or 4 o'clock. We admired the outside then met up with Kelli and her friend. We walked through the streets a bit before going to the Santa Maria della Salute church. Our first hotel a couple weeks ago was across the canal from this church and we have wanted to see it but didn’t have time before so we made sure to see it today. It’s a very large church that grabs your attention with unique designs on the facade. The inside is cool as well but not as flashy as others. They had a mass starting soon so we got to hear the organ play which was beautiful. We went to grab a bite to eat at the Hard Rock. It was nice to get free water and free refills again. We parted ways with Kelli and wandered the streets and did some shopping. We found a small restaurant tucked away on an empty street so thought it would be good food. All the touristy restaurants right off the main roads are not great. We were not the only ones who found this restaurant as it was full but we decided to wait as it must be good. As we were waiting they gave us a small glass of prosecco and a small plate of seafood risotto. It was about a half hour wait so the snack was welcomed. We made the right decision. Megan had gnocchi in pesto and Mindy had a ricotta and spinach ravioli. Both were very yummy. It was our last night of vacation so of course we had to order dessert too. Megan had the tiramisu and Mindy had an amaretto cake. The tiramisu was good but the amaretto cake was amazing!! All the desserts were made by the owners wife and you could definitely tell. They were delicious! While finishing our dessert they brought us a complimentary piece of lemon cake, 2 shots of grapa, and a shot of “hot chocolate”. What?! We were full but had to try it. The grapa was a nut brandy and had a good initial taste but a bad after taste. Again very strong. Little did we know that the “hot chocolate” was an even stronger chocolate liquor. It took Mindy by surprise as she was expecting hot chocolate and her face showed it 𯘆. After dinner it was past 10pm so we headed back to the hotel as we were both exhausted and had to get up early to go to the airport. We had a great trip and don’t want to leave but our bodies are in need of a break. So homeward bound we go tomorrow. Hope everyone enjoyed hearing about our Croatia. adventures. Until next time.
