Kaye in d’Orsay

Kaye’s art nouveau dining room

Moreau’s Painting

d’Orsay restaurant

Musee de la Legion d’Honneur

We have returned to Paul’s for our morning traditional baguette as they have an oven on site which gives us a better chance of warm fresh bread. No more pastries as the carbs are getting to us and we still have a long way to go.

We were away from the apartment at 0945hrs for the metro to Solferino to visit the Museum D’Orsay. We spent two and half enjoyable hours wandering the museum with audio. My photo’s will be our memory of the many fine exhibitions. Amongst the many exhibits, the cut away model of the Opera Garnier has inspired us to visit again with a better understanding of the theatres construction. Kaye was more than impressed by the art nouveau collection of furniture, especially the timber panelled dining room with it’s Gaudi like lines making it a unique exhibit. The paintings of Van Gogh, Manet, Monet and Moreau were to my liking while Picasso doesn’t hold the same appeal.

We completed our tour at 1230hrs and retired to a cafe nearby for a rest and drink before the Musee de la Legion d’Honneur , opposite d’Orsay, opened at 1300hrs.

We were not prepared for the detail involved or the time needed to complete the visit so I plan to visit by myself before we leave. We did however make a quick tour of the building and realised the need of the audio to better understand.

We next took the Metro to Defence to buy presents for the grandchildren, however, realising the futility of travelling with them, we settled for only one for nephew Josh.

The fun then started trying to find sticky tape for wrapping paper. It made us realise that store structures between our two countries are quite different and products we take for general use are not as readily available here ; finding screws or nails would be a nightmare; even without the language barrier.

On leaving Defence we purchased a packaged dinner of spareribs from Marks and Spencer’s which believe it or not turned out to be one of our nicest meals to date; well cooked with a tasty sauce; best packaged meal ever.

We were back at the apartment by 1530 hrs where we spent the rest of the day relaxing. Kaye is reporting better movement and is hopeful she is over her injury and not destined to be hobbling from now on.
